So my Caesar modern minis arrived and I designed and start printing some bases to make them a bit easier to work with but before I have gotten to use them my two older sons (9 &6) saw them and are playing a game already.

I only have 28mm terrain but it’s good enough for them for now. Just made some simple rules for them to use. Everyone has movement 6″, rifleman get 2d6 and hit on 5+, sniper gets 1d6 and hits on 3+, and rpg uses a small template (random circle I found not sure the size) and gets 1 die per model under it and hits on a 5+. Hopefully keeps them entertained and off video games for a bit.
You will be surprised how quickly kids pick up gaming if just playing regularly, I mostly play games with my kids and we range from games like AoS and 40K to Dark Souls(boardgame) keyforge, pandemic etc. For me this is the best part of the hobby to have that connection to the kids as they grow up. My eldest son James is now 12 but was playing Fantasy Battle at the age of about 8 and regularly kicking my butt.
Great to see keep it up and enjoy.
my oldest has some primaris marines and we have played a couple small games of 40k so far and we have been playing TANKS! but i need some more tanks as just the starter set gets a bit boring after a bit. We do play a decent amount of board games as well. I’m hoping that they will become more interested in this hobby rather then just playing video games.
I have lots of other minis games that i will slow introduce them too but tonight they just start playing with the models i had on the table so i decided to turn it into a simple game for them. they are playing with them and i don’t know what ruleset I’m going to use yet lol.
Good ideas! I gave my daughter The Warlock Of Firetop Mountain yesterday. It will be interesting to see how she gets on with this classic fighting fantasy book. Also thinking about DBA. I think she will like the elephants 🙂
My little one is six years old, we started with Ninja Allstars. Important fact on this one for me is, that nobody dies, only knock outs. 🙂
And he wants to paint his ninja team…some day.
@FOGH I haven’t tried to give my kids anything like the fighting fantasy books yet (though i enjoy them) not sure their reading skill is quite there yet. What is DBA?
@brimat I saw that you can get the print and play for ninja allstars in a humble bundle right now so i am probably going to grab that. the game looks like something the kids would like and interesting for me as well.
After school i’m going to see if they want to help me make some terrain for the 20mm stuff. I was designing some buildings to 3d print lastnight so we can do some hills and scatter terrain bits while i print a few buildings.
@marsniper27 DBA is a simple-ish Ancients game. Each side gets 12 bases of troops. Plays on 2’ by 2’. Has a simple paper/scissors/stone combat system. A great intro game.
@FOGH ok that’s what came up when I did a quick google for “DBA game” just wasn’t sure if it was what you meant or not. I will have to check out the rules sometime. I have wat to many things to built/paint right now to start another game but I love reading different rule systems.
