    ### Start of shameless copy and paste ###

First time visitor to OTT? Then please introduce yourself in the New Member Thread and look around in the Project System. Then come back and read on…

    https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/introduce-yourselves-new-member-thread/

    https://www.ontabletop.com/project/

Read all of this before you start as it will save you any trouble later.

First thing you must do is make your “pledge”. It can be anything gaming related, big or small, and you don’t even have to finish it. No, in here, happiness is the road. Have fun doing whatever it is, but it is not a race. Accompany your work with pictures or we might think you are do something sinister and just using us for cover.

You are also presented with a few questions. It is to get the conversation started. Try and keep your answers ‘conversational’, no text speak, and certainly no “basically”. This is how we all get to know each other better. While you are here feel free to tell us a story, show a picture, joke, tales of love or woe, or just add your own little bit. This is the whole point…in here it is just us.

If you have never taken part before we may bark and bite, but we also like a cuddle! It is all done in the best possible taste and it is character building. feel free to give as good as you get.

A few other things to note: NO RELIGION & NO POLITICS! Glasgow pub rules are in effect. If you need to make a better point then it is fine, but don’t take the piss. And always keep it civil. This includes no philosophy, no home computer culture wars.

Play plenty of music to go with your work. Loud and through proper speakers. Write us a playlist of things we might not have heard before.

Now, after all of that there is only one ‘real’ rule in here and it cannot be broken: NO DICKS! (Exceptions may be made for little fighting men with little plastic/resin/metal wieners)

And don’t forget the highlights of the weekend: The Weekender on Friday and XLBS on Sunday. And the little show that is The Hobby Hangout over at twitch.tv

If you fancy to see some nice WIP pictures go to the WAYPN thread https://www.ontabletop.com/forums/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-2025-edition/

    ### End of shameless copy and paste ###

    Question of the week:

    • Doing nothing and feeling ok about it?

And now back to the show.

I’m going to skip pledges today and dive straight into the question.

What is it with people (me) that can’t take a day off and do nothing and feel ok with it? Why is there always the need to feel to have accomplished something? Is it the constant flood of other people doing great stuff or is it really an inborn need to get shit done?

Can you take a day or two or even a week off and just do nothing and still feel good about it? Or are you feeling that you are wasting time?

I can do nothing and not mind it.
But there’s also times when I somehow can’t get motivated to do anything … only to regret not having done anything when I get that one bit of motivation do finally do something.

I’ve got one more week of work and then I get to do whatever I want for two weeks.
Not quite sure if I get anything done in those two weeks, but I really really want to get some things finished and two weeks of not having to work should be perfect opportunity to do so.

(of course me being me that won’t happen … somehow …)

This feels like it should fit:

The full version is a bit too serious for our needs :

Doing nothing still feels a bit alien to me.

When I was working, if I did nothing on my day (or week) off it felt as if I was wasting a precious resource.

I still feel guilty if I do nothing, but I have one of those minds that always feels ‘busy’ so I usually end up doing something, even if it’s only planning the next RPG session.

I can’t sit down and watch whatever crap is on the idiot box, it needs to be something I want to see. With streaming there is so much stuff, but still so little good stuff. Often I start watching a movie or series and if I’m not hooked within 15 minutes I stop.

This week’s pledge is to start the Stronghold faction minis for Heroes 3.

    • Doing nothing and feeling ok about it? – If I have an entire week off I can manage one or two days of nothing. Any more than that I feel I wasting time.

Doing nothing I can do. However I have perpetual feelings of wasting days. So I guess for me , no I can’t intentionally do nothing and feel ok with it. I envy those that can.

I have zero problems with doing nothing. Taking a zero effort vacation day is a good thing, just not too often.

    Monday morning. Well 10am already.

Currently experiencing a complete “I don’t want to do this or that”. I would have guessed after three weeks of I would be reinvigorated for hobby, movies and stuff but no. The urge to leave the TV and PC off is high.

Maybe more coffee will fix it. Can’t hurt to try can it? 🙂

Pledge:  Need to get the next article in the Starting KoW series submitted today.  Then I’ve got an army carry case to build and fit to the Abyssal Dwarfs and some Ogres who need some jungle themed basing.

Answer:  Feeling okay with doing nothing is entirely within your own gift.  It is not related to what others do or don’t do.

I’m good with doing nothing if there is nothing to do.  For me, doing nothing should be intentional.  If I have a heap of things I need/intend to do and then don’t manage to get anything done that’s not so good mentally.  Whereas, if I give myself permission to do nothing then I’ll happily while away the time.  I use journeys with long travel times on trains or planes to switch off.  I turn my phone off, don’t read or watch anything and put my brain in neutral and before I know it I’m arriving at my destination.

4 more days … and then I get to do absolutely nothing unless I want to for two weeks.
I used to make big plans for my days off, but as none of them got done I stopped doing that.
Best lower my expectations so I don’t feel so disappointed when I have to get back to work again … 🙁

That’s not to say I got nothing I either want or need to do.

All I do know is that I’ll be burning through my Claude tokens a lot faster, so I will be forced to do something else while the limits reset.

    oh… I’ve been listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks ( https://mattdinniman.com/books/dungeon-crawler-carl/ )
They’re really funny. Almost done with book 3.
