Spider-Man has the best villains
I’ve finally been able to make some time for painting after a very time-consuming move. When I decided to get into Marvel Crisis Protocol, I thought I’d focus on Spider-Man related characters — part of what finally pushed me into the game was a massive rewatch of all the films, followed by a multi-volume set of books reprinting the newspaper strip from the late ’70s. Even better, I could start with the Spider-Foes starter set…
I didn’t really manage to stick to that restriction, but it does mean I have a lot of Spider-Foes to paint, and he does have the best rogue’s gallery of villains other than Batman. These first four were a lot of fun to do. I used my usual mix of different techniques, mostly black primer, a ton of drybrushing, and a bit of speedpaint for details here and there.
Vulture was the easiest to do but also the most fun, with Electro a close second. There is something very satisfying about working in bright colors.
Still to come I have Green Goblin, Kraven, Lizard, Rhino, Mysterio and Carnage. I’m more of an ’80s comics guy so I’m not that interested in Carnage, but at least he looks to be fairly easy to get done. We’ll see.
