About the Project
In this project I will go through some experimentation with painting in the Grimdark style and using those lessons learned to develop my own, more gritty paint style. I will be using oil paints for the first time in combination with acrylics, enamels and some wax paints, hence the title...

BOUDI!!!
A layer of detailing got done on Boudi tonight. I added a bit of weathering to the base. And I enriched the tones on the skin, hair and cloth and highlighted the metallics. A lot of these touches don’t show well on camera sadly.
The techniques used on the cloth is the same as I have used on the skin before. For the colours I took a little bit brighter colours than the base colour of the cloth is where I painted it.
Oiling Up!
I got a layer of detailing done with oils and enamels on Haleth from Hasslefree Miniatures. While I was not expecting to fix the face, I have made some minor improvements to it.
POTS & Faces....
After having had a struggle with the heat and my POTS I have now been able to do a little bit of hobby. So I got the 2nd layer of shading done on Boudi.
I also primed and basecoated the heads on pikes for my face painting exercise.
Let's Face It!
After Boudi and Haleth are done I got myself a new exercise. As I was chatting with someone about options for practising faces, I recalled the Fireforge Games Folk Rabble have a ton of great head sculpts. And I could use some practice myself…. So I mounted 8 heads on pikes.
In the Shade. 🕶
Second layer of shading done on Haleth and the first layer on Boudi, both from Hasslefree Miniatures.
METALLICS!!! 🤘
I made the metallics metallic again after the varnishes on Boudi.
Shading Layer 1
That is the first layer of shading done on Haleth from Hasslefree Miniatures. Now I just got to wait until it is properly cured before doing the next.
Due to the changes in my painting setup I can not as easily make pictures as I do the steps I go through. These changes were kind of necessary for me to be able to paint again. Since I have already shared how I do most of the stuff, I don’t think it should be necessary. If anything new comes up or I change anything, I will make the effort to share that.
A Good Session.
I had a really good painting session today. I got the metals upped and shiny again after the varnishes on Haleth and did the acrylic base layers on Boudi, both from Hasslefree Miniatures.
