    A friend and I had a game of War of the Ring the old Mass Battle rules for Lord of the Rings. These were put out by GW in 2008 and use normal LOTR minis on sabot bases.

    I had Rohan v my friends Isenguard.

    He won 13-12, very fun game and it felt good to finally use my Rohan after spending all that time painting over 80 Cavalry.

    This is ever so awesome. I enjoy seeing one of my favourite games played, just like MESBG. Maybe next time you can make us another gift by doing a battle report.

    That looks fantastic!

    I loved that game. It’s a shame it didn’t take off. I think GW dropped the ball with the army lists which ended up with people fighting lopsided battles dominated by magic, etc. rather than what could have been very thematic battles if only they’d toned things down a bit.

    Please post more photos of future battles!

    @angelicdespot that’s exactly what happened. We have some rules to stop it. 1 Hero or Legendary Unit per 700 Points and 1 magic caster max per 2000. That tends to fix most issues.

    In the next few weeks we want to refight the Ford’s of Isen which is going to look amazing and I’ll write a short batrep for it.

    Here’s another game we had a few weeks ago. The Fords of Isen scenario from the main rulebook. Game ended in an Isenguard victory although Theodred was able to escape. Those dismounted Royal Guard were absolute tanks on that island with Theodred, they killed three Trolls, a company of berserkers and a whole formation of Orcs.

    Just had another Game of War of the Ring. 2000 Points of Rohan v two 1000 Point armies of Mordor.

    We used some new community profiles that adjusted some units and made a lot of balance changes. My beloved Sons of Eorl have been made unique and can only be taken with Eorl so they’re now proxy Royal Guard. I can’t really do a blow by blow buy basically I moved up shooting as I went and slammed into their line, made gains on the left, lost ground on the right until I broke the centre with Eomer and his unit massacred the Black Numenorians and Theoden suicide charged into the Black Guard before being wiped out, sending Eomer berserk and he massacred the Black Guard (Once Eowyn or Theoden die his unit is S7 D3 with a +1 to wound from their lances). Unfortunately while I was able to hack apart the flanks the orc numbers overwhelmed me and in the end I was tabled.
