About the Project

I'm working on an army of ancient Indians in the service of His Majesty Lord Ramasanjeet Jayant Manish Boobs (yes, an actually possible name). I have found my calling and it is again a cacophony of colors that catch the eye. There is no hope for my wallet.

Never ones to bow out
Never ones to bow out

There are no Lloyd shots as the cameraman thought it unnecessary. My sincerest apologies to Lloyd and all those looking forward to seeing these guys from behind. As there are so many levy archers I think it can be forgiven.

These units were divided as best I could visually with the differences being there being only one banner bearer and a single swordsman. Both units have a musician to make noise to direct fire and movement.

Thank you random response generator of the search engine DuckDuckGo. I have managed to be gifted information about flags since I got curious abount Hindu banners. Why is this important? I had no idea about them and figured it might be better to have some frame of reference.

Apparently the big reference I keep coming across is the story of the Mahabharata. Research is always a dive into the unknown and these are waters generally unfamiliar to me. In the book, which seems similar in a way to the Iliad as a “someone done somebody wrong story, each warrior had his own personal standard and the narrator described each with their favored fighting style. With that in mind I’m using the palm tree used by the character Bhishmacharya (who led archers) and the moon with planets for Yudhisthra (the leader of some spear chukkers). I’ll be adding a very simplified image for the Hindu goddess of corn/plenty on the next banner (cavalry). The future tiger riders will likely get a tiger just for simplicity and ease of my brain. Don’t anyone ask me to try and actually write any names out in Sanskrit or get into the language background. Research has its limit to being fun and I’ve reached maximum depth to delve into these.

So you have a flag. What does it mean?

I have gotten a significant portion of the army painted

The drawback is that I need to be consistent in painting models to achieve great results in short order. Problems in workflow are just issues to be overcome. The growth from painting singular rpg models has been long and storied.

I looked at my paint scheme and realized that it started looking like the modern Indian flag. Despite the color balance I’m glad to have changed it to the greater value distinction I did. These figures pop much more than I thought they would. I like the way all these little people look and the colors please my eye. Onward to the cavalry and monsters. I hope the tigers get designed sooner than later while I focus on the big stuff.

No foul or high-sticking

Knowing that the swastika is a symbol older than was made infamous nearly a century ago I decided to add it on the shields of these Hindu fellows. I’ll probably get flack from this but I’ll gladly refer to the many images and just settle on the book “Gentle Swastika” by the late Canadian artist known as ManWoman.

Ladies of deadly grace

The Maiden Guard are complete. I was inspired to swap out the shields with a set of metal ones that were styled on woven rattan. Going back to the gatka fighting I believe this to be a good choice. I’m a little sad that there’s the barest hint of the detail work in painting them but I’m glad there is something seen here. The dots on them were a lot easier to paint than the eyes.

Here we have mustachioed muscle men heft their gada maces as they advance against the enemies of Lord Boobs. Its a better presentation from a higher end camera I can’t achieve myself on my phone. I’m pleased to show these guys off in this batch of images.

I’ve gotten higher resolution images of what is Lord Boobs on foot with a small entourage accompanying him. I used what would’ve been extra clubbers to make the base more interesting.

A slight modification was in order to try and upload so please forgive sizing issues.

Here is the first of the fancy schmancy photo sets from one of the guys at my FLGS. I’m quite happy to have the expertise someone else has to do justice to the figures. I’ll get more later from a slightly higher angle to give a better view of the base with skulls but these work for now. Overall these shots get the important angles for display.

In getting the opinion of someone else I was given the description of this being “a shirtless Gerry in bermuda shorts with a machete pretending to be a force user”. That’s more than a little bit misleading as this fellow has been obviously put on a slow roast in the sun and we all know that since the Irish never see the sun Gerry would turn to ash like any vampire. Anyone in orbit can see his monitor tan reflected in the faint glow of moonlight. That leads me to question is the source of his power actual Moonstone.

That being said I think that The Love Guru might be inspiring for a name in future.

I forgot to bring my completed minis to the FLGS in order to get them filmed (digital images, yes I know). It means that I’ll have double the points for next time ready for glamor shots. Five more points of minis with the Warlord base all done. I’m should also be on the cavalry by then. The only real issue I have is not having graph paper to get the unit banners out of the way. As we’ve seen before this is a generally last touch kind of detail anyway so no real worry. I am irritated that it won’t all be spectacular to show off “Right Meow!”.

As a side note to other small details I need to get some 3D printing done for the banner pole of my second Hearthguard unit. I might as well get some bipdeal Creatures and maybe that Kali statue if I have enough credit. I’m still holding out for the tigers to be created and it’s just a waiting game. I bothered Wargames Atlantic for their Vox Populi and MoM Miniatures with the last mention of it so I might as well be patient for Giftmas. *sigh* I could wish for a few things but I think the tigers are most useful models in the near future.

In the meantime I share something from Ye Olde YooToob to pique interests and whet appetites for the models I want to bring to the table.

Someone else took to this model tooSomeone else took to this model too

OK, from the beginning of the project I meant to include this model and was disuaded because I could only find polystone maquettes or vinyl figures. Of course, leave it to just looking through different search results do I get the stl file for precisely what I envisioned. This will be added to the menagerie without question. The hunt for interesting things will be on standby now while I paint furiously in the background.
