Bring The American War Of Independence To On Bloody Ground
April 14, 2026 by brennon
WiP Games and Miniatures have been hard at work on their next set of wargaming rules for On Bloody Ground. The fighting now shifts to the American War of Independence with their newest set of rules, which cover the period and are available to pre-order now.
The American War of Independence // On Bloody Ground
As with the previous On Bloody Ground rules, this comes with a set of quick and easy, common-sense mechanics for handling the basics of movement, shooting and combat. You will also find a structure for commands and orders, introducing more tactical and dynamic gameplay. This makes the On Bloody Ground rules great for both newcomers and veteran wargamers.
Within the pages of the American War of Independence book, you'll find six complete army lists allowing you to build forces for the British Army, Loyalist Forces, The Hessians, The Continental Army, the French Army and the Spanish.
I really like what WiP Games and Miniatures have been doing with On Bloody Ground. Finding a set of solid game mechanics that work across a variety of time periods is great, and each book then adds something specific to the time period and the armies of the era. It's a great way for someone with a large Historical wargaming collection to play different periods of history without having to relearn entirely new rules all the time.
Will you be picking up the rules for the American War of Independence?

Is this the 1776 or 2026 edition?
Ah the war of unchecked colonial aggression.
I may pick this up, since the Waaahlaaard epic frames for this came out I’ve been considering a project.
This might be a nice alternative to blackpowder for the epic scale minis
Would need to know more (I’m always on the lookout for a good set of AWI rules), but the problem is the period is almost asymmetric in gameplay with both of the main combatants being so different in numbers, equipment and training. Alas just removing things like rifled muskets on a set of ACW rules although playable isn’t going to reflect the conflict very well. There’s almost no information back at the rules websites highlighting the changes made on this one 🙁
