A good friend and I ran a 500p Challenge over the course of 2018. We each painted a 2000 pts 40k army in 4 blocks a 500 pts (hence the name of the challenge). Each block took 6 weeks. You can check it out here:
We had so much fun, that we wanted to do it again. This time it should be something special and we wanted to be more people. So we asked our friends and got 5 more people on board. And nearly all of us decided to paint up a Horus Heresy army. One is going another way, but still participating in the challenge.
Again we will try to paint a 2000 pts army in 4 parts. We decided to take a bit more time and have 2 month per block. As our start date was the 1st of November 2018, we should be finished until the end of June 2019.
The rules are clear. You can built and prime as much as you want. But you are only allowed to paint the minis dedicated to one block in exactly that block. So slower painters don’t get discouraged by the success of the faster ones.
If anyone wants to join this challenge, please feel free to do so. You can do it in anyway you want. You don’t have to paint Horus Heresy or even anything GW. Everything is welcome. Just create an army worth 2000 points (or the equivalent in your game system), create a project here on BoW and paint that army over the next 8 month. I know it sounds like a long time. But how many armies did you paint in the last 8 month?
If you decide to join don’t forget to post a link to your project here in this thread.
This post should have the links to all the project. Hopefully there will be many. Until now there are two.
I just started my project today. I am painting Heresy Thousand Sons. @andre77 is already well underway. He is painting Heresy World Eaters.

Hi @bothi, that’s a great way of doing things as a bit of motivation always helps and 500 pt blocks are perfectly manageable. I am starting to properly start my 40k Ultramarines (30k are still a way off) and Eldar armies for gaming in 2019 – they are large armies though and I will only be painting what we need for games so it won’t quite fit into your scheme.
I have a third army of Imperial Knights to build, but that might be cheating and not fit into 500 pt blocks well. Custodes might be an option too, but I would have to point out to see if it would work. In any case will be following keenly.
As long as you are painting stuff, there is no cheating @captainventanus .
It’s not a challenge in which you compete against each other who painted the most or who has the most skill. It is a challenge in which together we try to overcome one’s weaker self and paint more minis 😀
So if you want to paint Knights as part of this challenge you are more than welcome.
