The red weed grows
I added some red autumn lichen to the edges of my vivid red patch and I think it evokes the illustration I was using as inspiration
Ruin build
Using the classic album art as inspiration I wanted to create some ruins that are overgrown with the red weed of Mars. This piece of art by Geoff Taylor freaked me out as a kid because the red weed just looked like gore.
Big collection of bits to make my buildings
Timber frame ruin. Tomorrow I'll paint it up and get that red weed growing.
Flags flying
Trying to get rid of these old flags was a pain. I snapped two if the flimsy banner poles trying to remove the oversized flags
New ones are a bit smaller
Back to the tripods
I spent a bit of time adding some details to the cockpit to give them that bug eye look.
I used a stencil but just dabbed paint over it like a child. Gives the open cilinders a bit more character and depth as it fades to black inside. British infantry
I have relocked my infantry but those big flags need to go. To give them a HG Wells toy soldier look I glossed them up. When painting four units I broke up the red by doing one unit as green rifleman
Artillery
I've added more detail to the flocking but otherwise they do
The only thing really capable of sending a tripod whirling to destruction
British cavalry
For some reason the Martian Empires range was missing British home service cavalry despite being in the army list. I picked up some Zulu war cavalry and painted them to fit home service such as black helmets for the dragoons. I can't remember where I got these guys from they were 15m not 18m but they still fit I had them on the wrong stands recommend by the game so I've swapped them round

The scenario in the Martian Empires rulebook has three landing sites with one tripod built. The British have to capture the cilinders before other warmachines get built.
