Vikings by SirHumphreyRtd

We start off this week with SirHumphreyRtd working their way through even more of the miniatures for their Dark Age collection. Last year, SirHumphreyRtd, worked their way through their Gripping Beast miniature and this is now the year of the Victrix miniatures and especially the Vikings.

Vikings #1 by SirHumphreyRtd

These miniatures are going to be used for a range of different games, running from SAGA through to Hail Caesar and perhaps even a bit of Midgard Heroic Battles. SirHumphreyRtd has once again done a great job on these, working out the right basing that would work for a variety of games, making good use of the components to make the commander figures for this Viking army as well as the rank and file.

I also really like the finish to SirHumphreyRtd's miniatures when it comes to the shields, especially. I think making them a bit grittier and dirtier works very nicely and fits with the painting style of SirHumphreyRtd in the round. You've also got a great array of different colours in the mix, making them feel like individuals. Not everything in the Dark Ages was brown and green!

Vikings #3 by SirHumphreyRtd

Adding in the standard also really helps to sell the final look of the miniatures and make them pop for use on the tabletop. SirHumphreyRtd has embraced the more dynamic sculpts for the Victrix Vikings but did explain that turning them into a tight shield wall might be quite tough! The hair also made SirHumphreyRtd think more of Hollywood Vikings than the Historical ones but it's nice for catching the eye!

Heroes of Might & Magic by danlee

Moving on to the next project, we dive into an absolutely titanic one from danlee who has been tinkering their way through all of the miniatures from the Archon Studio board game. They have been painting these miniatures for ages with all sorts of mighty heroes, deadly monsters and more finding their way into the collection.

Heroes of Might & Magic #1 by danlee

Most recently, danlee finished off this wonderful Faerie Dragon, which added a big splash of colour to the collection! Throughout the entire process, danlee has tried to match the miniatures as close as possible to their card art, meaning that there are all sorts of fun schemes as part of this collection.

As well as showing off the finished miniatures from this collection, danlee also breaks down the process of bringing them to life and the different paints that were used to achieve this final look. I am a big fan of dragons, so it was neat to see more of them popping up recently for this game.

What's really cool about this project is that because there is such a diverse range of miniatures to choose from, all in very different colours and schemes, you're unlikely to get bored halfway through! If you ever get tired of painting towering Egyptian-themed monsters, you can paint something entirely different and then get your mojo back for different projects later.

Fairy Orb by cutegoth13

Sticking with the theme of faeries/fairies, we also have a neat new addition to cutegoth13's project. They wanted to do something a bit different and so created this awesome Fairy Orb, which looks like an awesomely fun little project!

Fairy Orb by cutegoth13

This Fairy Orb was crafted out of a glass tea light candle holder and a range of Freebooter Miniatures fairies that you can see nestled within it. I really like just how packed with flowers and other vegetation the orb is, allowing the fairies within to blend in nicely, picked out by the lights around the outside. I kept seeing more and more fairies as I was looking closer at the project!

I always like seeing people doing small, unique projects like this. Not everything has to be painted for use in a wargame!
