They bounce? :O
good to see a demo for this game, only issue I have is (if I am reading the rules right) is the game isnt actually ‘legal’ as you need 2 troops.
I am trying to get into the game and I think it would be a good starting point to address that.
Yeah that’s very true. What we are seeing here represents maybe 350 points worth – certainly less than a starter box which is usually around 500. But for the sake of a demo game it makes sense to keep things small. 🙂
First house rule. On Scatter rolls, forget dividing, just use the ‘ones’ digit on rolls of 10+.
I have to say after watching this I do find the mechanics rather convoluted. The board looked lovely however.
I have to agree. While the board is cool and the minis look nice, there seems to be a lot of dice rolls and lot of modifier for each action. I guess it’s not a game for me.
I don’t know if it is still the case with 40k but I remember that there was a roll to hit, a roll to wound and then an armour save. I don’t recall what the ‘to hit’ penalties were but I am pretty sure that the armour save used to be modified by the stength of the weapon.
With Warzone, there is a roll to hit (with -2 to hit for each pieces of light cover in the way and -4 for each piece of heavy cover or model in the way), followed by an armour save (modified by both the strength of the weapon.. STR 11 = -1 to the armour save, STR 12 = -2 to the armour save etc AND the damage type, which will be Piercing, Blast or Plasma). Generally, line troops have armour which is weak against Blast damage to the tune of an additional -2 to their armour save.. so a Strength 11 grenade that does Blast damage thrown at a Bauhaus Hussar with Armour 12 (An extra -2 to armour against Blast damage) will need a 9 or less.
Most of the time, that’s that. Some tough models have the Heal (x) skill which gives them a chance to shrug off the wound after failing the armour save if they can roll x or below on a D20. You can also use one of your resource cards to “buy’ a Heal (3) roll for a non-vehicle model, but the odds aren’t really in your favour so people don’t often do it. Those resources are usually better spent on extra action points or increasing the rate of fire on an attack.
Also this is why aiming is good. Not only does the action increase your chance to hit, it also increases the strength of the attack, making it more likely to result in a kill.
At last! can’t wait to see more!
Great Setup and board, yet I found the game quite boring.
Great job lads….. Warzone was my first miniature wargame back in 98-99 and my best friend had Dark Legion and I had Imperial (with the difference that I had wolfbanes back then). Awesome Game.
I like demo games a lot….but to be honest…jumping right into a new game without the least bit of info to the basics is pointless…leaves you more confused and guessing instead of immersed and entertained…to get hooked right away I want to know the core mechanic…some fluff backround…what are the troop types supposed to do…so I can at least follow the decisions both make.
Sorry but I found that rather difficult to follow without any background.
Love the MC universe, but my main gripe with this game is its using the same old tired 18″ 24″ shooting range when it is already detailed enough to have rules for shooting beyond say “optimal” range with a penalty that grows as target range increases … Its always nice to be able to pull off those low chance pot shots when you need to take a risk. Plus the game is playable on a larger table if i want to do that without having everyone moving a mile before engaging in combat. Not to sound negative but it would be nice to have those less limiting options. I know its just a game but its always nice to have features that moves it away from being just a game. /rant off
Good vid guys and looking fwd to more 🙂
The basic rules with a legal army without the card decks was in backstage which had more positive comments. That should have been the demo game that was for non backstagers. You should have had two 500 point armies or starter boxes with the basic rules decks for the demo. Then had two 750 point armies with the deck of cards for backstage demo that would have been the advanced rules. I did enjoy both videos and I hope to see more Warzone content in the near future.
I would have loved this game 20 years ago. Now it’s just another of thousands of “skirmish” games. I’m somewhat in the market for a good “skirmish” game at the moment because there seems to be at least 100 “skirmish” games for every 1 battle game. I’m willing to try and find out why this is the case. Maybe there are just very few people out there that like to see a couple of tank groups on the table.
I can’t see what makes this game worth the effort though.
Thank you for the video. The board and miniatures look great! This is my first time seeing Warzone. The game seems a bit complex with lots of dice rolls. I would need a very enthusiastic player to introduce me to the game and get me interested. I would play if I knew someone that played Warzone. Thanks again for the video.
Really wish you’d put up a tutorial for that board. Beutifull is the only way to describe it.
