North Star Military Figures Expands Into the Age of Louis XIV with New 1672 Miniature Range
June 9, 2026 by avernos
North Star Military Figures has unveiled Three Musketeers 1672, a new miniature range covering the armies, personalities, and conflicts of the reign of King Louis XIV during the turbulent years between 1665 and 1680.

Named after the infamous Dutch Rampjaar or "Disaster Year" of 1672, the range focuses on the period surrounding the War of Devolution and the Franco-Dutch War, when French armies under the Sun King invaded the Dutch Republic and reshaped the political landscape of Europe.
While the historical backdrop provides plenty of opportunities for battlefield gaming, the project also takes inspiration from one of the most enduring legends of French history: the King's Musketeers.

The Three Musketeers Return
The range was previously known as Glory of the Sun and has also been referred to as the Three Musketeers 1672 range. The concept explores what a classic Three Musketeers miniature collection might look like if it were set during the reign of Louis XIV rather than the more familiar 1620s.
Working alongside designer Mathias Rapp, North Star has created a range inspired by the historical revival of the Musketeers by the young Louis XIV. Fascinated by the exploits of the legendary King's Musketeers from his father's era, Louis reinstated the formation and brought back one of its most famous figures, D'Artagnan, to command it.
Far from being ceremonial guards, the Musketeers served as an elite military force. They protected the king during his travels, fought at the forefront of major battles, undertook espionage missions, and played a prominent role in campaigns across Europe.
Perhaps most famously, D'Artagnan was killed during the Siege of Maastricht in 1673 while leading an assault against the city's defences, cementing his place in both history and legend.

More Than Just Musketeers
The initial releases focus on mounted and character figures from this colourful period, complete with the distinctive fashions and military styles of the 1670s.
North Star has also confirmed that the range will continue to expand with additional infantry packs and civilian miniatures, including both male and female figures. These future releases should provide plenty of options for historical wargamers, roleplayers, and hobbyists looking to recreate the battlefields, towns, and intrigues of late seventeenth-century Europe.
With its blend of historical warfare, iconic personalities, and swashbuckling inspiration, 1672 looks set to be an appealing addition for anyone interested in the age of Louis XIV and the legendary Musketeers.
