Domino, the lucky lady, all painted up.

Finished Domino this weekend. She was my first time trying a predominately black paint scheme using the new Scalecolor paints I recently switched over to and I couldn’t be happier with how she turned out. I experimented a bit with the explosion and the OSL on her base and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. I think the only criticism I could come up with (for now) is I feel like the whites in Scalecolor are a little muted and so the models don’t “pop” as much. I might have to bring in GW or some other brand for my white to make sure I get that back. Particularly for this project. I’ll update with a paint plan later.

The merc with a mouth... the serious version.

My first version of Deadpool is painted up. I say “first” because I’ve got 3 of him (so far). The first, since I was painting up X-Force members, is his X-Force uniform. I’ll also be doing a “serious” version in classic uniform and a pirouetting off of rocket version in classic uniform. Deadpool was also painted using entirely Scalecolor paints, save for some Agrax and Nuln shading on the trashcan. I can’t express how much I love Scalecolor paints. The blends on the grays and blacks were so fun to do and felt so smooth. When painting him it felt like almost nothing I could do would cause the paint job to look bad. It was kind of a surreal experience.

That being said, it was only after I finished Deadpool and Domino that I realized I used a lighter blue than I had originally intended for the black (Navy Blue instead of Abyssal Blue). Now I wonder how much better the black would look had I not done that. Fortunately I’ll get multiple chances on him.

Iron Fist ready to go.

Got Iron Fist painted up just in time for a tourney. He was really fun to paint. Struggled a bit with the OSL on the base. He was a far more intimidating model to paint in my mind than he actually was when I sat down to paint him. I wonder how much of that is due to how smooth the Scale Color paints go on and how nicely they blend together.

Got Luke Cage painted up just in time for a tourney. I’m really proud of the jeans. I think they’re the nicest I’ve painted yet. I’m not entirely sold on the idea of this recipe for yellow, but overall I think it looks pretty good. Just not sure it looks better than my other recipe.

Cassandra Nova ready to kill all of humanity.

Finished up Cassandra Nova this weekend. Very weird character I had never heard of before. Honestly don’t have a lot to say about this one. This was a “quick and done” paint job that honestly only looks as good as it does due to the nice blend nature of Scalecolor paints.

Sin is ready to lead the Cabal.

Finished up Sin this weekend. This was another “quick and done” paint job as I’m not really connected to the character.

Nebula joins the Guardians.

Did a quick and dirty paint job on Nebula last night. Only took a couple of hours. Pretty happy with how she turned out. I’ve noticed that even though I love the Guardians films, I’m not really feeling them for MCP. I don’t know why, they just don’t speak to me. Interestingly enough though, this has caused me to just kind of jump into their paint jobs and I’ve been really happy with all the ones I’ve painted because I don’t stress the paint job and just kind of play with it and enjoy the process. She was pretty fun to paint.

Star-Lord ready to lead the Guardians

Finished up Star-Lord this weekend. Used Sorastro’s painting guide as a general guide on how to paint him. Pretty happy with how he turned out. I need to invest in some fluorescents, because I feel like the process of doing OSL would be quicker using inks and fluorescents and the paint jobs would come out smoother. Definitely going to have to pick some up next time I’m out.

I feel like the NMM on him came out much better than it normally does. I’m not sure if that’s a skill thing or if using Sorastro’s recipe just works better than what I was doing, but either way I’m going to switch to that recipe for future NMM.

Pretty stoked that now my Guardians are playable, so I’ll have to get some games in and see if I like em.
