Community Spotlight: Turnip28 Bees, Napoleonic Forays & Refreshed Tyranids!
July 8, 2026 by crew
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We’ll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week…
…always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Turnip28 by hidoi
Some great work from hidoi in the community first, who has been painting up a very strange collection of miniatures for use in their games of Turnip28. This force is known as The Hivebound, based on the Beekeepers of Bhir and hidoi has done a great job of working on both their lore but also the painted miniatures for this cult!
These weirdos come from some of the lore within the world of Turnip28 but hidoi has levelled that up with some of their own storytelling as well as drawing from their actual background within the game. The miniatures look brilliant and I think they'd absolutely scare the pants of Nicolas Cage should he ever wander across them.
hidoi hasn't just worked on some of the characters for this faction but also some of the rank and file as well. These Hive Brethren above look stunning. I love their plain robes and those classic beekeeper masks which give them a very eerie look and feel. You've then got that nice clash of the more Medieval look to the miniatures and the black powder weaponry.
These fellows aren't opposed to using their winged friends in combat either. The cavalry of these bee-lovers takes the form of the winged Bastards/Welps as you can see here. There are more fun miniatures to check out from this force on the project from hidoi, including a great wandering Hedge Knight. Don't BEE silly and make sure you check out this project. Otherwise, I'll tell you to BUZZ off!
Napoleonics by scribbs
scribbs brings us back to planet Earth with some grounded Historical miniatures. They have been expanding their Napoleonic collection with the 2nd Nassau Regiment using miniatures from AB Figures.
The 2nd Nassau Regiment that you see here would have originally been fighting on the side of Napoleon but they got secret orders to switch sides and joined up with the British. This didn't go down too well for their fellow German formations who were disarmed and confined to quarters! It's fun what you learn from other wargamers.
The miniatures here from scribbs look brilliant as always. They have been painted in their Nassau uniforms from the Waterloo campaign but they'd also be great for the Peninsula Campaign after 1809 according to scribbs. I really like the detail that scribbs has worked into the miniatures and the photography of them is great too, giving them a real sense of how they'd look on the battlefield.
Make sure to go and check out more of the miniatures from scribbs over on the project page as you'll find a feast of other Napoleonic miniatures that should inspire you to dive in and give the period a go on the tabletop.
Tyranids Refresh by sundancer
Last but not least, we have sundancer who has been working on a fun Spring Clean Hobby Challenge project where they took some old Tyranids, gave them a terrifying bath and started repainting them for some more games of Warhammer 40,000.
sundancer is playing 3rd Edition Warhammer 40,000 with a friend and wanted to boost their twenty-four Tyranid miniatures from the classic Battle for Macragge box with some more cheap miniatures. So, some miniatures popped up on the painting table and this is now going to be turned into a fun 750-point army which can battle against the Dark Eldar.
sundancer has done a good job throughout the project (which is now complete) of documenting the various miniatures, taking stock of what they have access to and what they can do with them when it comes to painting. Tyranids are a great army for speed painting and making them look good with, frankly, very little work required if you do it right. And, sundancer has done just that.
The final look of the miniatures is spot on and really works for a quick and easy paint job that will look good on the table. The off-white/bone colour for Hive Fleet Leviathan is a good starting point for the army and with the addition of that purple carapace in places, it really pops. This is especially true once you use washes to bring everything together. I think this is a job well done for the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge.
The whole army has now been magnetised and is currently sitting ready to be used for some games. I hope they do well in those 3rd Edition Warhammer 40,000 games.
What Are You Painting Right Now?
Every week, we’re absolutely blown away by the incredible topics that are put into the Projects; it’s getting more difficult to choose Community Spotlights! We love your work and we hope to see a lot more of it in the future!
If you fancy getting your hobby fingers out and showing off your newest paint job, terrain piece or even greatest gaming achievement, we want to know about it! We don’t mind if you’re a newcomer to painting or a veteran of the brush; everything you do inspires us to create more and more content together!
