About the Project

With all the Gundam projects popping up (and because I don't feel like painting armies), I was inspired to build another diorama with a Gundam. I have about 19 Bandai kits that I collected over 15 years and just left on the shelf. So I decided to take the oldest kits and try to upgrade them with extra detail. This kit is one of a Zaku 2. It is a very old kit and has very little detail for a HG kit - unlike the newer ones. Therefore this project will be my first 1/144 scale diorama and the first time I try to upgrade it by adding extra detail. This will be an imaginary Zaku prototype, like a paper panzer.

Hi everyone,

This diorama is finally finished. The project took me long enough, but I am glad I finished it before December.  During the Xmas period tourism here explodes, and I would have been way too busy to work on the two projects I have finished – namely this one and the Ogrion Army for Kings of War.

I did not take a lot of pictures because, I did that in the previous post – and nothing has changed since then!

Overall, I am satisfied.  I made several planning mistakes due to the scale of the project.  You think something fits in, but actually it doesn’t look convincing once it is in place.

Also, I discovered that, tackling a robot as if it is a tank, is not always a good idea.  Robots in the Gundam universe are more anthropomorphic tanky men rather than just vehicles.  This forces the modeller to go about things differently – in my opinion.

When I get back to doing more gunpla stuff, these lessons will be forefront in my head.

For my next diorama, I will going back to the realm of fantasy – Lord of the Rings to be specific. Several months ago @sundancer made a silly joke (as he is does), and it sparked an idea in my head that began with a tumbling stone, and gradually turned into an avalanche of enthusiasm.

Until we meet again in that project, stay safe and have fun.
