At 2:27 – 2:50, does Darrell really say, “…instructions on how to get wood….??”. If he needs instructions I think he has been playing toy soldiers too often and for too long.

Well, as the song goes, if you go down to the wood today you’re in for a big surprise.
I like the model, I think I’d be tempted to use something like the vallejo texture pastes in a thin layer on the tree mounting points for when you remove the trees, rather than just a bit if flock, I really need to give fantasy a try one of these days.
Only thing wrong with it is the same problem all GW terrain has, you can make a much bigger version cheaper that you can have more variety and flexibility in. If you need one in a few minutes and you have the £17 GW want for one it’ll do but I’ll be twisting wire and wrapping it in masking tape and plaster bandages if I need a forest.
Exactly. I built two woods this size, with magnetic trees for the same price, just with materials from a local Hobby store.
I, too, like the mysterious terrain rules in Warhammer Fantasy. I think games should have more interaction with the terrain.

I think these are overpriced at 30 bucks or 17 pounds. I’ve made my own cheaper and there is more satisfaction in seeing a forest you built yourself.

Before the GW UK website makeover there were some excellent how to make terrain articles, including trees.
These look ok and by GW standards not too badly priced.
Personally I will be continuing to make my own.
It’s too bad you can’t get the old book anymore, it’s pretty advanced when it comes to some of the terrain pieces. The new book is better by far but the old one is still very good for a different type of terrain, i feel.

I found my copy yesterday. The voting hall, in my area, has a small book stand. So there you go folks, it pays to vote!
I think this kit is so poorly detailed it is a disgrace, for that price ! The leaves come in horrigle bunches, the sides of the trees are smoothed and devoid of details… The only redeeming factor are the rare little scenery elements. You’ll be better off making your own trees, even quick and dirty is better than this kit.

I agree, they’re not great. TBH with you the GW plastic scenery has made me really lazy because “they’re not bad”… thing is they’re not good either. Sadly I think building wargames terrain is becoming a dying art, its such a shame I used to play on such gorgeous unique tables as well.
i personly think they look better with the leaves off and mybe to save waste you could use the leaves painted up and stick them onto IG tanks for xtra camo
We got a set if these for the office. We don’t use them……..
They aren’t bad, but I’d paint them up as dead trees. Just hate the “patches” of leaves…

But that’s not what we are waiting to hear, is it? The question on everyone’s lips, the answer we all want to hear, the big issue is … does Darrell see any downsides?
He keeps us waiting nearly all the way through the video. And just when we can’t wait any longer … yowzer yowzer! Darrell sees no downsides to this. That’s a huge relief.

The tree’s are not great, but they aren’t bad either. The problem I see with them is the trees toppling over/falling off when moving your scenery from the stash to the table and breaking off leaves.
I know we got 2 sets of these at our LGS and most of the branches/leaves have come off by now through repeated (ab)use

I bought these yesterday, after seeing the video. For myself, I really enjoy making terrain from scratch, but while I’m at home making a cottage or a fence, making trees is something i find a bit trickier. These ones fit the scale and aesthetic of Warhammer better than other trees you can buy, and the ability to remover the trees individually makes them nicely playable. I’ve made them as winter trees without leaves, because I think that’s where the kit falls down. Those flat swathes of canopy look rubbish.
As much as I like building terrain from cardboard and drinking straws when it comes to trees I always buy a ready-made product like this one.
Building trees by yourself is too much hassle compared to the effect you are getting. Plus manufactured trees are much more sturdy.
