Had this bad news on Facebook this morning though we had heard rumblings :
Dear Asgardians,
This is the toughest post I have ever had to write, but we need to put a statement out about the situation as soon as possible.
Asgard will most likely close after the weekend, unless we manage to get some finances together to cover financial issues that we have had with the property. These issues are historical and we have just never been able to clear and catch up with them as we have moved forward with increased prices to everything.
Without boring you all with the details, throughout the last 4 years, Asgard never achieved the turnover it was set out to. A big part of me wonders if I had have done things slightly differently, we wouldn’t be in this position now, but, the financial situation for everyone right now is rubbish. Some of the trouble we are in now is from COVID and having to close during lockdowns. Rent was deferred until we get back on our feet, bounce back loans were taken to pay for things that couldn’t be paid while our space was closed. It seemed like we were just finding our feet after this, until our landlord demanded all the deferred and owed rent immediately.
This weekend we ask for your support as it looks like it will be our last in Walsall.
It is a shame that Asgard is going but over the last quarter we have seen Asgard grow from strength to strength. We are busy and it seems horrible to even consider closing the doors on such a fantastic community.
Everyone should be proud of the community that you have all become and there is a Kevin Costner moment there for me with the mantra of “Build it and they will come” still ringing in my ears over a decade ago.
So keep your community strong, and please come and support us for this weekend if you can, but please, do not ask for a discount, we need to raise as much funds as possible this weekend.
I would like to thank you all for helping me make Asgard the place it is today.
Kind Regards, Vince.
