Painting Marvel Crisis Protocol With 144Artist

About the Project
I have some very good friends who chipped in to pick up the newest core box for Marvel Crisis Protocol for my birthday present. One of the benefits of celebrating in my Friendly Local Game Store apparently. While I have wanted to paint some of these minis since I first saw them, I haven't been sure about diving into the entire game. Well, two of our group are completely addicted so I will have folks to play the game with, unlike my Burrows and Badgers undertakings. I must admit to being a little overwhelmed by the contents of the Core Set. There are all the rules, templates, counters, dice, terrain, and minis needed to play. Speaking of the minis, there are 13 in the new set and they are wonderful little sculpts, great detail and movement. I think this is going to be fun. Now I just need to avoid diving into the deep end and trying to acquire everything. Anyone who has been following this blog will know I have failed to restrain myself. Despite still not having played the game I have just about every character made and two thirds of them are painted. At least I'm getting some good work done.

Punisher Brings the Punishment
Punisher seems like a natural choice for this game. He’s tough, fights dirty, and is completely unaffiliated. Sure he takes out bad guys but he did start out hunting Spiderman let’s remember. I really like his static pose. Something about it just feels lethal and Punisher is nothing if not lethal.
Taskmaster Is Ready For Hire
Taskmaster is now painted in his unique color scheme. The oldest heroes are all in the primary and secondary colors as that was the limits of early comic book publishing. Taskmaster are around once a wider pallet was available and it shows in his baby blue and yellow color scheme. I enjoyed painting him for that very reason. Nice pose as well.
Killmonger is Finished and Ready to Contest the Throne.
With Killmonger finished another boxed set is complete. He has quite the dramatic pose with an added sculpture of a panther rounding it out. I have just about finished the Wakandan affiliation with only M’Baku and Chosen of Bast remaining and they are both assembled and waiting for primer as i write this.
Worked on Colossus as well. I believe the pink base to paint yellow over is a winner. It even worked for some touch up. Still have a few more highlights to go with it but I like it so far. I have a lot of work to do on the NMM but I did get a few layers and outlining done.
Shuri
Continuing on with my Wakanda affiliation progress I present Shuri. A brilliant scientist and formidable fighter. I like that AMG leaned into the MCU look more than the comic book. Her lion headed blasters are especially cool.
I’ve got Wong, Magic, Bishop, Colossus, and Cassandra Nova on the painting table right now. I’m going to work on improving my NMM skills with the steel Russian as well as trying out using pink for the base of yellow.
Back to Wakanda with Okoye
As I seem to have made a good start on a few affiliations it is time to get back to building up my Wakandans. So here is Okoye built and painted. A very stoic and noble pose for one who looks pretty deadly on paper. She seems like one who will fit in a number of teams well.
Agent Venom Reports For Duty
I wasn’t familiar with Agent Venom when I bought Spider Woman but since he was in the package as well I had some reading to do. Bonus that he can be in the Guardians of the Galaxy Affiliation as well. Great sculpt with lots of movement and only a little frustrating to assemble. The speed at which he painted made up for that, unlike Carnage which is a whole future post himself. I have a feeling that there is a Symbiotes Affiliation in the works as they keep trickling into the release schedule.
Drax the Destroyer Rounds Out My Guardians
Here is the last of my MCU Guardians of the Galaxy. As much as I love the movie version, I do appreciate the simpler tattoos as I’m not sure I could have painted the others. Being one of the earlier releases the pose is simple but still emotes the rage and frustration of the character. Very easy assembly without the tiny pieces some of the later kits will include.
The Man Without Fear Is Ready to Patrol the Streets of Hell's Kitchen
Dare Devil was the mini that made me start adapting some of the bases. I just couldn’t see the gravestone he’s leaping from sitting in the middle of the street. It really makes a big difference and I can see myself going back to add rubble to some of the minis I’ve already finished. I was going to add some tufts of grass but am having second thoughts. I love this character and Atomic Mass’s sculpt of him. I am just worried about the cord from his baton breaking off at some point. For as delicate as many of the models are, I have been fortunate so far.
