About the Project

I have some very good friends who chipped in to pick up the newest core box for Marvel Crisis Protocol for my birthday present. One of the benefits of celebrating in my Friendly Local Game Store apparently. While I have wanted to paint some of these minis since I first saw them, I haven't been sure about diving into the entire game. Well, two of our group are completely addicted so I will have folks to play the game with, unlike my Burrows and Badgers undertakings. I must admit to being a little overwhelmed by the contents of the Core Set. There are all the rules, templates, counters, dice, terrain, and minis needed to play. Speaking of the minis, there are 13 in the new set and they are wonderful little sculpts, great detail and movement. I think this is going to be fun. Now I just need to avoid diving into the deep end and trying to acquire everything. Anyone who has been following this blog will know I have failed to restrain myself. Despite still not having played the game I have just about every character made and two thirds of them are painted. At least I'm getting some good work done.

My Asgardian Alliance Grows With Valkyrie's Completion

With Thor finished Valkyrie couldn’t be far behind.  I love the lore and characters but thought it will be a while before I got to work on any more of the affiliation.  Then I picked up Beta Rey Bill because I love the character and really want to paint the mini.  That’s a double win so I had to get him glued up right away.

Not sure if I just missed posting these or didn’t see the post when I reviewed the older ones but either way, here are the finished pictures of the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.  Seems appropriate as I have almost the vast majority of the Affiliation painted now.

Looking back I see I’ve not been posting any of my Work in Progress or On The Table shots recently.  I collected a few together to make up for the oversight just a little.  I’ll try and keep up on these more in future as I always enjoy sharing the process.

Thanos’s more lethal daughter, Gamora, is painted and ready to represent the Guardians of the Galaxy affiliation on the table.  I only just realized I haven’t posted the pictures of Starlord yet either.  Gamora is the last of the MCU characters for the Guardians I needed to paint.  There are others like Angela and Beta Ray Bill I will get to later but I have little interest in Cosmic Ghost Rider as I never read any comics he was in.  I’m sure I will change my mind once I start playing the game.

Nebula looks as Cool as She is Deadly

What a great sculpt.  Wonderful detail on top of a gravity defying action pose.  The way the figure only touches the base details by the side of one foot could only be done in plastic.  I may be an old guy who has been painting minis since they were made out of actual lead but I never had a problem with plastics.  Like any material, I always judged it by the quality of the details, poses, strength of material, and ease of construction.  I love Atomic Mass Games’ plastic kits even if they get a bit fiddly sometimes and this one really shows off the strengths of the material and sculptor.  Nebula is so fun visually that I can see me using her in a lot of lists just because I think she looks cool.

Sticking to the Guardians of the Galaxy characters here is Ronan the Accuser. The sculpt is a mix of the comic character and the MCU version and I rather like it.  He was a quick, fun paint job.  I might go back and work on the energy channels of the weapon but I doubt it.  This guy will look good on the table as is and I frequently say; Finished is my Favorite Color.

Building Better Bases... Now With Paint!

I finished painting several of the bases I had added rubble and texture to.  I am quite pleased with how they have come out.  They give the figure an environment to exist within and don’t jar my eye the way some of my earlier bases did. I can see me going back to several of them to modify in a similar manner.  I really have to start incorporating more of the extra bits AMG have attached to every sprue of bases. Cups and cans will add color and texture though I will want to paint them with brand logos on them because I am ridiculous.

Rocket Shows Up Heavily Armed

With Groot comes Rocket and his arsenal of weapons.  Being small and fragile would lend one to ranged weapons.  As I mentioned in the previous post, I painted the two companions at the same time to better match bases and plant growth.  I quite like the lenses on the “muzzle” of the gun and am amazed at the delicacy of Rocket’s teeth.  The idea that he is so small (Size 1) that in game he always counts as in cover is fun and really fits the character.
