The British are Coming! 2 Armour.
I then started on the armour, I know some feel its out of plavl e in 28mm game, but I already had unbuilt models and this was the impetous I needed to build and finish them.
I started with the Humber from tbe starter army box, luckily I had watched a you tube video on the faults with model, and ensured tbe hull warp was corrected with hot water before atempting build. It was and all the following armour painted very muchas had tbe walkers.
Then it was time for the tanks, all 3 kits had been brought around 3 or 4 Salutes ago when Rubicon 1st released them, they had been intended for what if war hadn’t ended in 45 project, and should be avail in Konflikt as tbey were in real life, that is tbe Comet and Centurion.
I had built and base painted tbe Comet, but both Centurions were umbuilt, strangely I had built and painted 2 of the later Mark Centurions brought later for my Black Sun project.
As previously said tbe Comet had been built, it just needed the winter war weathering to get it to match latest force.
The British are Coming!
With the German and American forces temp finished with tbe completion of both Starter and Beginners boxes I turned to what will my 3rd and final Konflikt force the British. I had briefly considered not doing tbem but already had odd stuff from previous venturr into the game so what the hell. So buying the British starter army and a heavy mech I began.
Unlike the other 2 armies this time I started with tbe mechs. I had already done tbe Guardian, and had a paintedGrizzly which I wintered to match my theme.
I then began on The Percival medium mech and Merlin Heavy.
I found the previous Salamander Green abit dark so bit the bullet and brought GW Death Guard Green as it was easier to find without paying silly postage.
Both these and the later armour were given a base colour of that, followed by tbis time a 50/50 water to wash of GW Agrax Earthshade. Followed by a dry brush with army painter cammo green. Metallic’s were again done in Army painter enchanted steel followed by a nlln oil wash over the metallics. Vision slits and the Tesla coil on Perival were done with a base white, followed by speedpaint haze blue, followed with re picking out highlights in white.
At this point decals were added from my collection of old rubicon and warlord decals. using both micro sol decal solutions, before the winter weathering dry brush and sponge stippling. Again the the lower parts of the walkers was coated in neat agrax earthshade, before a final white dry brush.
The Americans Part 3, Mechs and Tanks
With the tso tanks It was time for Mechs, I had the Linebacker from the starter box but later purchased another as I really liked tbe kit, plus the Light Jumper mech the Jackal, this was done at same time as a British Guardian Light mech, which as with the Sherman had been purchased built ,and never finished.
It was intereestting to see how Warlord had improved the detail with tbe later Jackal with warlord resin.
The painting procedure was prstty much as with the tanks.
Decals again were mainly from my collection of Rubicon and Warlord WW2 vebicle collection
Having practiced with above I went on to tbe 2 linebackers, one with Autocannons, and one with HMG’s plus Tesla.
The Americans Part 2, Mechs and Tanks
These models have been done a while, but I’ve been hobbying not blogging, but will yry and vatch up today.
I had purchazed one of the new Konflict Stuarts, but still a Sherman from my previous foray into the game, so I precided to do both.
Now the original plan was to base coat tbem Death Rattle green from the Colour Forge range, but Element in Birmingham hadn’t got in stock so had to go with Salamander Green instead. To dull it down and add shading it was then coated in diluted 50/50 Nuln oil, then a dry brush of Army Painter Army Green with a later highlight with Army Painter Cammo Green , lightened with a bit of white. Tracks machine guns , any chains ,were done in Army Painter Enchamted Steel from their Speedpaint range. Periscopes and lights were 1st done white, then speedpaint Haze blue.
Although there were some decals with model, I went for some of tbe left over decals from my Rubicon collection , mainly M113, and Centurion kits.
Once tbe decals had set I dry brushed them White, before sponging white over the upper surfaces.
The tracks and lower hull were weathered using neat agrax earthshade, then dabbing with sponge litghy for Fresh Snow falls.
The Americans.
For the Fireflys I pretty much for the scheme on the box art. The Base uniform , was a mix of Army Painters Malignant Green and Palid Bone in a 50/50 mix in an attempt to match that light tarnish colour. Jump boots were done in Citadel Contrast Wyrdwood. Belts , jump packs etc was my old favorite Forest Sprite, though the helmets ever done in Army Painter Malignant Green. Weapon stocks were leather Brown with metalwork done in Atmy Painter Enchanted Steel.
Then the figures was given the now traditional Agrax Earthshade wash thinned about 50/50 with water.
Post above drying the white and blue Tesla effect was added to wpns and faces were applicable finished.
The bases were done as were the German Powered Armour.
I did 3 Thompson X squads, one I added a Auto Rifle but on watching the various let’s Plays, on subsequent squads went for Flame Throwers instead.
With the 6 spare figures I did an Artillery Spotter team, 2x extra men for Commander escort and another Flame Thrower team…
Why not!
The Roberta Wells and the Firefly Officer ( dressed as was David Schwimmer in Band of Brothers) were dome in similar fashion, other than Roberta’s jacket was done on white base with Apothocary White Contrast, and The officers leather done in Leather Brown Apropriatly.
More Germans for Now.
To Finish off my German Force, I added a Panzer IV X, which I did the X Turret and a Standard Panzer IV H turret, plus a Late Stug, whichhad been sitting on the downstairs hobby table, built and base coated over a year.
Both were doen I the same Winter Scheme, used o the Powered Armour and the Walkers. Again as with the walkers the lower part of the Hulls were given a neat Agrax Eartshade wash ro represent dirty water from melting snow and then another dry brush of white was done for newly fallen snow.
Both the Panzer IV H and Stug are awaiting crew figures at some point.
The Germans
The Catalyst for this project was the purchase of a Konflikt beginner and starter box. I wasn’t sure I needed 2 of each side mechs, but having looked through Festing Europa , figured I’d a platoon of Fireloes for the Americans and A platoon of Stahltruppen.
With the latter I had decided on a winter scheme, to fit in with my late WW2 winter Europe theme.
This meant everything could get a base Colour Forge White coat, with a wash of GW contrast Apothocary White for base shading. Cammo blobs of GW contrast Gryph Charger Grey were then added, with it all getting a dry brush, of Army Painter White, to bring back the white on highlights and to weather the Cammo.
Speedpaint Grim Black was used on the face masks and the various armour joints. Metallics were done in Speedpaints Enchanted Steel.
Then a thin coat of Nuln oil was given to whole model, and once it dried another light dry brush of white. The Metallics were then dry brushed Army Painter Shinning Silver for contrast.
The bases were done with a sprinkling of of a wasteland rubble, and some snow effect textured paint by AK Interactive.
The Decals are just Generic German decals from left overs from various Bolt Action and Rubicon kits .
The Resin leader was done with a similar method, with a Speedpaint Bright red lining and Cammo Cloak for his cape.
The Light mech from the Starter set followed the theme , the main difference being Iadded weathering on the legs, using neat Agrax Earthshade .
I had got some old Konflikt and Dust which I now needed to winter to fit in with the theme, So I started with the old Light Walker ‘The Spinne’ which had originally been done in the yellow cammo scheme, which I now carefully wintere using a sponge with Army Painter White, and adding The AK white textured paint on the base.
The Commander was actually 1/48th figure from an old Tamiya model.
I wasn't planning Anything.
I hadn’t really any plans for this year’s Spring Challenge and hadn’t really considered it much even when I decided to re jump.into the Konflikt 47 with its re-launch. I had a few bits brought a few years ago sitting partly built and painted .The original plan was to build the new American Airborne forces , and the German Powered Armoured units. I was planning to build a British force, and will be getting the Robot Infantry. But digging through boxes realised I have a ton of both Dust and Secret of 3rd Reich, which is actually painted which includes a platoon of Infantry, a squad of powered Armour Infantry including re-oncarnation of Arthur, courtesy of West Wind, plus a plethora of Walkers from Dust, all painted up as 11th Armoured. In addition I have an equivalent no of German Walkers via Dust. One example of my current collection is the Projects cover photo of a DUST mech, which had to be taken about 18 years ago.
All should be easily designed and fitted in to the background, having quickly scanned the rules.
Now obviously they won’t be totally cannon , but I don’t play tournaments, and as I tend to play narrative driven games , getting points balanced won’t be a big problem.
So Now the plan is to gig them out and add them to my new models, with a bit of re-painting and tidying up. Most of it will be wintering them all, as I intend to continue my Winter War theme fro my Bulge Project. Which with the weird weather that the wars wonder weapons produce is the most likely weather encounter in most of the European battle settings.
So here are some examples of my older figures that will need some wintering.
Now how did these compare scale wise with the new slightly larger Konflikt 47. Judge for your self.
From table distances doubt if anyone will notice. The slight raised bases on the older figures hide a lot.
Won’t stop me buying a couple of sets of the new Galahad Armoured British as they will do nicely for SAS/Commando’s.
