On the issues with Sand not offering international shipping. I would imagine that the publisher doesn’t use eBay very often so hasn’t set it up properly. If you sign up for the Global Shipping Program in the UK then eBay will manage international shipping for you and that does include both Canada and the US. I sell on eBay a lot and have completed sales to buyers in both Canada and the US this year. It is very simple. As a seller I post to a warehouse in the UK where the postage and fees are sorted by eBay and they send it on.
April 26, 2026 at 5:30 pm #1972377No pledge, as weekend is nearly done. I have been working on trial models, will have to update the project
As to where the hobby is going, I am not sure, as my reference is mainly the people I speak to and game with. Which doesn’t always align with bits I see online
In general I see a diversification of what people are playing, being counter balanced by the concern of game availability which honestly seems to be the draw for GW games. I do think not all of the current game systems will survive as even those who are playing more niche systems are limiting how many games they take on due to limits on space, scenary, time and money
I do think the increase in players using other rules for miniatures, and turning to either miniature agnostic systems or previous versions (or modified versions) will continue. Particularly with GW games as a lot are being switched off by the combination of 3 year cycle, pricing and rules direction. Although some people do seem to have issues with cadence of updates.
That in turn may lead to a down turn in sales, as it tends to be more working on older projects, which combined with the current world situation may see companies and stores taking a hit
April 26, 2026 at 9:26 pm #1972378Sent a message to Crow about Sand – haven’t heard back yet…
@dags GW has gone from strength to strength where I live; tourneys are sold out 6 months in advance – with 80 person spots no less. It’s crazy. And I live in a city of just 1.5million. The “scene” here is absolutely dominated by GW, whereas GW was nearly dead say 10 years ago. Renaissance for sure. And zero signs of letting up.

@grantinvanman I can’t even wrap my head around those numbers! I live in a city of just 39,700-ish. I bought a house that sprawls over a lot and a half just so I won’t feel like someone is living too close to me. But the upside for you is probably actual hobby stores in your city and gaming clubs! That’s something I can only dream about. 👍
April 27, 2026 at 2:04 am #1972383@templar007 when I first started playing Warhammer, I lived in the Canadian far north! Town was ~13,000 – one hobby shop, all the players knew each other. That was during Rogue Trader/early 2nd edition 40K and 4th/5th Warhammer Fantasy! Some of the best times for hobbying for me.
Calgary has the largest hobby shop in the world – yup; it is over 14,000sft over a mezzanine, a main floor, and an upper area (gaming area, games, historicals). Sentry Box – look it up. And there are loads of smaller shops around. Plus an actual GW store in the nicest mall in the city. The manager there is one of the top 5 longest serving managers for GW! I’ve known him since I moved to Alberta. A long time…
I was out of “the hobby” for a while, but when I got back in, GW made it easy to find people for sure.
For a city of this size, it’s also massively hurt by urban sprawl – I don’t even leave my “quadrant” if I don’t have to.
April 27, 2026 at 3:02 pm #1972455Personal development of game interest and sense of aesthetics for models really is the individuality of our hobby. I agree with @zoidpinhead that the only thing we can do is move with the change. Find our hobby niche, grow with it, and foster others to grow in it as well or as close as possible.
Hopefully when it’s time to pass on our collections we have a splendid amount of painted figures and some unpainted stuff to work on that can be appreciated.
Oh.. and on the note of Lloyd I’m glad I missed that but I’ll add the entertainer known as Ladybeard

April 27, 2026 at 5:29 pm #1972463@grantinvanman I don’t doubt in areas it is doing very well, that wasn’t my point, nor is it relevent to my view. As an aside tournament health is not game health, it can be indicative but not necessarily so. The constant churn for the sake of performative balance modification is putting some off. Even systems getting less frequent changes get complaints of the rate of change.
I do know people I talk to who are what I would call dedicated 40k players are not excited for 11th. One group has decided to play every other edition, another is playing modified 8th ed. Another group are focusing on 2nd ed. Others are using opr.
Two annecdotal conflicting accounts means the picture depends on region which is why I am not sure. I don’t have any desire for or expectation of GW failing. Although I feel the current direction of travel makes me increasingly reticent to say GW is a positive for the wargaming hobby.
I do wish more people would try other games, but I understand the constraints on doing so. I personally would rather get a few games a year and enjoy them, then a weekly game of 40k or AoS (as they currently sit)
I seem to recall you dropping other games cause GW was the only games you could find? I am glad that works for you, but my decision would be very different. Which is why I think we will continue to see diversification of rules
April 27, 2026 at 6:05 pm #1972480@dags I have a bookcase full of other games, and a few shelves of random minis, but yes, I mostly sold my other minis. Books are too heavy to ship so I ended up keeping most rulesets.
Years ago I had a club and they were open to other games, that was more than a decade ago and another city away.
GW is the dominant force here, so I’ll just keep doing what I enjoy. That is what it’s all about, right?
cheers.
April 27, 2026 at 6:33 pm #1972484Totally off topic… but for the last month I have been worried about my health.
The one perk of that worry is I have done a lot of hobby which focused on Marvel Crisis Protocol.
Today I had colonoscopy and nothing really scary was found… for which I am very relieved.
I may need to make some diet changes, but I can cope with that… although I was advised to cut back on spicy foods…
But I’m English… curries are a dietary requirement… so are spicy pizzas… if I stop eating spicy foods my tastebuds may start working again!
Anyway… today I ordered a bunch of Asgardians to add to my pile of opportunity.
And if I can find one… I may splash out on the Phoenix box which will provide a challenge to make the fire look good.
April 27, 2026 at 6:59 pm #1972488@grantinvanman, absolutely enjoy what you enjoy. Whatever the future of the hobby is if we can all find our happy place its a good future
Books are a nightmare, I have a tonne of old books I need to shift, mostly rpgs
April 27, 2026 at 7:01 pm #1972489Today I had colonoscopy and nothing really scary was found… for which I am very relieved.
Good to hear! A word of advice on the spicy thing if I may? And this is from personal experience over the last 15 years: cut back salt. Really only use a tiny pinch of salt in you food. At first things will taste a bit bland but you’ll adjust and then just using spices food will taste that much better. And crisps will be a total WOAH! again. We eat way too much salt and that dulls the tastebuds.
April 27, 2026 at 7:05 pm #1972490I’ll just keep doing what I enjoy. That is what it’s all about, right?
Absolutely. As a few of us have hinted the answer to “Man versus Hobby” appears to be resolving itself to: Hobby big. Me smol. Just do the good bits.
@pagan8th Glad to hear your recent brush with a health concern wasn’t too concerning. I had my NHS MOT and colon cancer screening and seemed to get through that okay. That’s a relief. However,
But I’m English… curries are a dietary requirement… so are spicy pizzas
I’m also English so I’m totally with you on the curries. Absolute essential. National dish for goodness sake. Not so sure about the spicy pizza. Perhaps that might be where I would choose to cut back. YMMV of course.
April 27, 2026 at 10:16 pm #1972498@sundancer I don’t add salt to food. Bad for blood pressure. I don’t add sugar to food either. Bad for teeth.
Know what you mean @dags as I probably have over 200 hundred RPGs.
April 28, 2026 at 3:06 am #1972500It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who seems to collect an endless number of RPG systems!
And here I thought I was alone………
I think that that is why I keep coming back here. Here I’m not a weirdo, I’m just one of the guys! 🤓👍
