1st Corps has released the first miniatures for their new 28mm scale 2nd Anglo-Boer War range that covers the fighting from 1899 through to 1902. This is a collaboration between Richie Hall and 1st Corps and the range contains miniatures for the British and the Boers.

General Jacobus Philippus Snyman - 1st Corps

General Jacobus Philippus Snyman // 1st Corps

We start with the Boers rather than the British and one of the iconic and dominant military figures of the time. General Jacobus Philippus Snyman made his name throughout the First Boer War, mainly of the battles in between and other conflicts and then, of course, the Second Boer War. Despite being sixty-one years old when the Second Boer War started, he became part of an experienced leadership team.

He captured armoured trains, set traps for the British, destroyed railway lines and bridges and was commander at the Siege of Mafeking. You can read more about his rather wild adventures HERE.

Snyman needs some soldiers to lead and that comes in the form of a set of Boers Skirmishing.

This gives you a great set of miniatures to start crafting your Boer force for battling the British on the tabletop. I like that they are in a variety of dynamic and interesting poses which mean that they should be great for using as part of a skirmish game where the poses come into their own for creating interesting battlefields.

Boer War British

On the other side of this conflict, we have the British. They have a few more miniatures to get you started, including two sets of Infantry Command to lead the way on the battlefield.

You can either choose from the British Infantry Command set or the British Infantry Command with Telescope, who are clearly ranging in some artillery and keeping an eye on the flow of the battle going on on the plains below them. This has made me realise that if you're looking for an easy conflict to paint, the Boer War is a pretty good one. You don't need that many colours to get a full fighting force ready, do you?

British Infantry Charging - 1st Corps

There are also six different sets of sculpts for your British Infantry that come in a mixture of poses. I've just shown off the Firing and Charging miniatures here but you can see the whole range of British Infantry for yourself over on their website.

This marks just the start of the Boer War range by 1st Corps, with more miniatures coming out, sculpted by Martin Baker, who has worked on the collection you see here. Future miniatures for the collection will feature Boer and British Artillery as well as Highlanders and Cavalry.

Could this be a good start to your Boer War collection?
