Monolith Tease A Return To Rackham’s Confrontation In New Games
June 19, 2026 by brennon
Perhaps missed in the aftermath of the UK Games Expo, Monolith Edition put out a teaser and preview recently for their plans when it comes to bringing Rackham's Confrontation back to the tabletop. Two games are in the works alongside much more.
Confrontation Returns - Reborn As Incarnation
As the teaser above states, Monolith are going to be bringing a brand-new era of Confrontation back to the tabletop based on the original vision from Rackham. Their plan is to do this through games but also stories, artbooks, roleplaying adventures and more. An ambitious plan.
Incarnation // Monolith Edition
This starts with Incarnation, a new Fantasy skirmish game alongside Rackham. This will be a two-player game where you take on the role of Incarnated heroes and warriors who clash to claim the universe of Confrontation on the battlefield.
Alongside that, there will also be the Depths of Cadwallon, which still makes use of miniatures but turns your adventures into a dungeon crawler instead.
Depths of Cadwallon // Monolith Edition
In Depths of Cadwallon, you will take on the role of misfits, mercenaries and treasure hunters who are heading into forgotten ruins to face down deadly creatures and find the secrets left behind by those who have gone before.

Both of these campaigns will also feature the option to get your hands on The Book of Aarklash, which will act as the definitive new lorebook for the universe of Confrontation.
The Book of Aarklash // Monolith Edition
Alongside all of these offerings, Monolith also teased that they are working alongside Modiphius to create a new role-playing game called Cadwallon. Astrolabe will also be producing Stories of Aarklash, a comic that is set in this world to give you a deeper insight into the lore of the world.
The team(s) are really going all out when it comes to trying to bring Rackham's original vision back to the tabletop. I like that, at least to begin with, we have games which lock into a small amount of miniatures and allow for folks to quickly get stuck into skirmishes and dungeon crawling. It works so much better than trying to do something epic with a host of models per side.
The real question will be, can this stick the landing? Rackham and Confrontation have a long and storied history alongside many failures to see it revived. Monolith has proven itself in recent years with its work on Mythic Battles, Batman and Conan, so could this team, alongside the likes of Modiphius and Astrolabe, actually make Confrontation's return a reality?
What do you think?

I was obsessed with Confrontation minis when they came out. And the translations were so appalling, the game was utterly unplayable. Still, the evil dwarves with their body-organ canopics were so cool!!!
I liked the models but have moved on with gaming. Low model counts were good but I feel as though these were the origins of over-engineering figures above the capabilities of most gamers which led to potentially lower sales. With experience under a painter’s belt justice can be done to play with the display figures in a game. I support the idea to try and rekindle old embers for nostalgia.
I’ll be interested to see how this progresses. The minis were ahead of their time and whether that same aesthetic can still captivate today remains to be seen. I’ll also be mindful of the price point. If they go straight for the GW end of pricing where Rackham used to price their product then I’ll be less inclined to engage.
