The spending of Maravedies looks like a simple, interesting resource management mechanic. To those who know the term “Euro boardgames”; from what I’ve seen this could well be a “Euro miniatures game” – very ellegant, but not simplistic.
Would like to read the rest of the rules.
It would be nice if they didn’t go through MegaUpload. Too much goofing around and waiting for such a small file. The downside of using Blogspot rather than paying for hosting, I guess.
The Maravedies mechanic looks like the soulstones of Malifaux. Just another name for points. Meh. Whatever.
The whole “nighttime commission”/lamp thing seems off. There’s no penalty for being under a lamp, when in reality (which seems the game’s basis) being under a lamp would kill your vision beyond it’s light and make you a target. By these rules, your range is worse in the dark, better under the lamp.
Little fuzzy on the “roll vs. attributes” mechanic, probably simply because they gave too little of it. I’m used to attributes being part of a character (like Strength, etc.), but it seems they are a defense from the way the rules read, since they are something that the die roll must exceed. In normal gaming parlance, that almost seems to say the lower my Attribute, the better I am.
I hope they find a better translator before they release the English version, so maybe some of this sort of thing will be clarified.
“The Maravedies mechanic looks like the soulstones of Malifaux.”
yeah and the shards (or what were they) in Alkemy before that. But it’s not exactely like that, since the same value is also used in warband composition as a direct limiting factor. This will either provide very good ballance or get utterly broken at some point.
But there is penalty for standing under a lamp; everyone can shoot you with their full (unmodified) ranges even though it’s night, while you still have your range halved shooting anything in the dark.
The “beat the attribute” is not so uncommon; Song of Blades and Heroes comes to mind. I can understand your point, but rolling high and trying to pile on as many bonuses as possible seems about as equally “intuitive” to me.
I’d wait for more of the rulebook to be revieled with more description of the concepts provided.
