Moonstone by PIGM00

We start off this week's Community Spotlight with a look at what PIGM00 has been doing when it comes to bringing their Moonstone collection to life. They have been painting up a range of miniatures from the range and doing an exceptionally good job of it!

Moonstone #1 by PIGM00

The idea here was to work through a range of the miniatures in their collection that had been sitting for a while gathering dust. A perfect excuse to break out some miniatures for the Spring Clean Hobby Challenge and get them ready for the tabletop. PIGM00 and Mrs PIGM00 have been working on these miniatures together. PIGM00 themselves mentioned that they've managed to get a fair few finished but Mrs PIGM00 is working on fourteen of them at a time!

Moonstone #2 by PIGM00

There has been a real push towards capturing a lot of the character of these sculpts and painting all sorts of different schemes that don't fall into the same rote way of working. I think that's one of the nice things about Moonstone. You always have something new and fun to paint up as they're all characters with their own personalities.

Moonstone #3 by PIGM00

One of the big things that PIGM00 wanted to do was to make sure that they got good basing done for these miniatures that followed a bit more of a whimsical Fantasy feel. They were very used to painting rubble and Sci-Fi bases, so they wanted to go with something different here. I think it has worked nicely. They even went to the effort of burying a few moonstones here and there on the bases in places, showing off the objective that everyone is fighting over!

Helsmiths of Hashut by jjgrubb

Next up, we turn to the work of jjgrubb who has been painting up some Helsmiths of Hashut as they venture back into the world of Warhammer once more. They have wanted to try out the new Spearhead gamemode for Warhammer Age of Sigmar and so settled on the angry Dwarves with big hats as a good entry point back into the Warhammer side of the hobby.

Helsmiths of Hashut #1 by jjgrubb

The idea here was that jjgrubb wanted to dive into painting an army for a Warhammer game without having to feel like they had to paint endless amounts of miniatures. Spearhead is a good format for that and instead allows you to tinker around with all sorts of fun schemes and ideas. As you can see here, jjgrubb went with a cool scheme (in more ways than one) that played around with different styles of armour and colours that you wouldn't normally consider for the likes of Chaos Dwarfs/Helsmiths of Hashut.

The blue hue particularly took me to the armour, which almost makes it look like it's got a magical tinge to it. I think it works well against the use of purple and gold within the scheme. I think it works alongside the darker basing choice for the miniatures as well, working as the frame that I always talk about with miniatures.

Helsmiths of Hashut #3 by jjgrubb

I think the whole project looks awesome and it's a great way to showcase just how awesome Spearhead can be as a concept. I think jjgrubb was also quite enjoying it since they built some packaging for the miniatures as well so they can be transported around to different games.

Warhammer Quest by adamogelsby

Last but not least, we're checking out some of the work by adamogelsby who has been working on upgrading and expanding on their Warhammer Quest project. adamogelsby has been working through painting up a variety of miniatures from Warhammer Quest to get them ready for some more games on the tabletop alongside a fun tile printing journey.

Warhammer Quest #1 by adamogelsby

They were very happy to find out that they had access to some of their old miniatures and got them out ready for another game on the tabletop. I have to say, even though these miniatures aren't the focus of this project, they look brilliant and I like all those old poppy colours used in order to bring them to life. Proper classic Warhammer.

I like how they contrast to the monsters and minions that you'll find in the various dungeons that you delve into when playing Warhammer Quest.

Unfortunately, just one of their classic mono-pose Orcs survived the purge but a bunch more were found from Black Tree Designs and then used to bulk out the range. They are a little smaller, as you can see but they work very nicely alongside the Oldhammer miniatures. The same went for the likes of classics like the Goblins, Minotaurs and even some familiar favourites from HeroQuest.

The most impressive bit of the project however was the painting on these 3D tiles, based on the old designs from Warhammer Quest.

All of the classic tiles have been replicated, and as you can see, adamogelsby has worked to make sure that they got their paint jobs matched to the artwork from the original tiles! I think these look brilliant and really elevate the old game and those tiles to a more modern game. I particularly like that they managed to get the technicolour look to the tiles across. Major props for nailing the checkerboard pattern as well!

What Are You Painting Right Now?

Every week, we’re absolutely blown away by the incredible topics that are put into the Projects; it’s getting more difficult to choose Community Spotlights! We love your work and we hope to see a lot more of it in the future!

If you fancy getting your hobby fingers out and showing off your newest paint job, terrain piece or even greatest gaming achievement, we want to know about it! We don’t mind if you’re a newcomer to painting or a veteran of the brush; everything you do inspires us to create more and more content together!
