And now for something completely different. Ever wondered about running an army from the Tu'i Tonga Empire on the tabletop in 15mm? Well, look no further, as Khurasan Miniatures has you covered with their new range, which is now on their website.
Tongan Command // Khurasan Miniatures
I'm sure that many of you will be as new to the Tongans as I am, especially when it comes to how they found their place in history. From around 900 AD, the Tongans established a rather substantial maritime empire. Their imperial navy was used to invade other islands as well as establish trade routes and explore further afield. This carried through into the 17th Century when the Tongan and Samoan cultures once again fused together and the Samoans then became the more dominant peoples.
Tongan Warriors // Khurasan Miniatures
Khurasan Miniatures has celebrated this with a great new range of 15mm miniatures that cover these fearsome Tongan warriors. The Tongan warrior was a deadly foe, throwing clubs and spears as they went into combat, which shook European explorers and invaders when they took their chances against the Tongans.
The Tongans would make use of their huge clubs in a more ceremonial way (see above) and would often make use of shields before the Tongans would then leap into the fray. The Tongans would also then be supported by warriors making use of bows and arrows to continue the barrage of missiles, sending the enemy cowering for cover before the main force smashed into their lines.

The collection of miniatures here has been made to fit into the 3.0 Polynesian (Tongan) list for DBA (De Bellis Antiquitatis), so that could be a great starting point for you if you're looking to find a game to slot the Tongan's into.
As well as the miniatures for the Tongan Warriors, Khurasan Miniatures also produced a miniature for the Tongan Kalia canoe.

These vessels could carry a full 100 men across the ocean as the Tongans moved between different islands, looking to settle new lands and establish their dominance in their region. Khursan Miniatures mentioned that once the Tongan's had conquered an island, they would then build stone fortresses and garrison them, making them a substantial force to try and dislodge!
Could you be tempted to try a Tongan force in 15mm scale thanks to Khurasan?
