These look great.
I don’t think I’ve seen anything from Wargames Atlantic that hasn’t been pretty good to great.
Nice minis! ??
So these guys are a precursor to inter-war Germany pointing gun barrels up in the air and saying they’re chimneys when the Versailles treaty inspectors were in town (possibly apocryphal but I’m sure that nugget was in GCSE history)
Haha, not quite, the French a little more stict, though theres certianly some similarities.
Short term consciption, they rotated 3-5 men in each company every month building up a trained reserve. Idea being its easier to retrain men than have to train them from scratch when the time comes. The weapons and equipment where somewhat lacking though using everything from scalvaged French muskets from 1812, british supplied uniforms through to the standard infantry uniform.
Pretty similar to some of countries using conscription in current times, Switzerland, Sweden and Israel spring to mind.
Being on the second box of these I can say they are fantastic and I think the best kit Wargames Atlantic have released so far, I wasnt really a fan of the British Riflemen for various reasons. Really quick to assemble and cleanup. If I had one critism it would be that the eyes are quite sunken in the face, otherwise spot on and a excellent kit.
Scale wise this as Gerry points out these work perfectly with Perry’s and Warlord. Front Rank and Calpe are a bit on the chunky side by comparison and dont really mix in that well.
For command I’d recomend Perry’s excellent metal Reserve Command (PN 52), alternativly you could also pick up 3 single sprues of Perry’s Plastic Prussian Infantry command (B23) for £2 each and have enough all plastic minis to make three 24 man batallions for blackpowder. Worth noting however was that reserve regiments were not issued standards but if you feel like folling the rule of cool go for it.
Very much look forward to seeing more army builder kits from the Napelonic period.
A fabulous looking set of ranknfile troops.
The only thing I can think of that WA could add to this 60 mins in a box range (with no command) would be ACW troops (as the uniforms although irregular are across the entire armies). Perhaps Nappy Austrian Line Infantry (as they are BIG units but in the same uniforms unlike their reserve/militia infantry). Although I expect the next one would be Prussian Landwehr (same head gear/equipment just in greatcoats)
