@amachan – As said before, 3D printing has made extreme undercuts possible by freeing designers – can’t really call them sculptors if they do it via ‘puter – from the technical constraints of a mold, producing some extremely dynamic poses, but those self-same undercuts also make painting many 3D printed figures quite a nightmare. And the extreme fragility of the models – even worse than resin –  makes them not well suited for actual gameplay, especially if you play outside your immediate circle of friends and cannot always count on your opponents treating your figures with kids’ gloves….

Unique is the word for those figures and I did check out the line they come from at Miniature Figurines.

I’ve got to say that they’re not my cup of tea. The vast swathe of sculpts done in metal I find are bog standard horses with various quirks from different sculptors and changes in armor. I will grant that yes there are small producers (such as Dragon Bait) that make interesting pieces like clockwork cavalry for British army women, rocket powered pogo sticks for American cavalry and Prussian guards on steam eagles but I don’t have much need for steampunk at the moment.

Yes, there are figures out there but the primary market is for horses. Smaller sellers may have molds for other things but is a matter of how difficult is it to dig them out of obscurity. Years ago I knew a shop that was happy to make sculpts for all sorts of historicals but the market just didn’t keep them viable. 3D print upgrade kits for Aztec leadership aren’t terribly in demand but it takes less money and space to get them digitally instead of having a whole new figure created in white metal. I lament what appers to be the loss of Gamezone Miniatures that did great metal.

You can kick that up a notch with elephants. Compare what Parabellum do with Conquest’s elephant construct at titanic scale and the cost effectiveness of Victrix’s plastic kits against Thistle&Rose or Gripping Beast. You’re buying a cleverly disguised weapon to induce blunt force trauma when you buy those models.

Another great example of unique metal cav  would be the Pax Limpopo lancers from Eureka miniatures. The site won’t let me post a link, saying it is ‘SPAM”. Which it isn’t. Ain’t ‘puters ‘wonderful’……so ‘trustworthy’ and ‘reliable’ and ‘always right’……

Take me back to the 80s, doc.

    Now.

Eureka is a good producer. They’ll be putting up a great deal over the weekend because Nic had his flight to Salute canceled.

On a separate note I rescind my previous claim on metal and mounts. I completely forgot about Ral Partha Legacy and have since looked over their stuff to plan for a potential future project.

Sounds like Nic told too much truth on anti-social media.

Ral Partha made some of the best and most iconic fantasy minis of all time, my personal favorites are their Dragons, Elves and Halflings. Bridge of Sorrows might be the best fantasy diorama ever made by anyone.

Or, and hear me out on this, his flight got cancelled because this weekend some internationally flying companies (like Lufthansa) have to deal with strikes (again).

I looked at the video on facepage and he did not mention why the flight was cancelled. So maybe just bad timing. That’s all.

What happened to strike breakers ?

Oh, wait – they were controlled by the same people who now control the strikes….
