New Pre-Painted Terrain For Warhammer 40,000; Are You On Board?
July 6, 2026 by brennon
Games Workshop revealed a lot over the course of their Summer Preview a couple of weeks ago but one element of that stuck with me was the introduction of their new ways of doing terrain. What do you make of their options for both unpainted and pre-painted terrain for Warhammer 40,000?
Combat Patrol: Battlezone // Warhammer 40,000
One such entry point is a classic one as part of the Combat Patrol: Battlezone. This has been designed to give you enough terrain for, funnily enough, your Combat Patrol games of Warhammer 40,000 and smaller skirmishes. The set comes with unpainted, push-fit scenery alongside the fold-out game boards and the terrain footprints that Games Workshop released separately.
When combined with the terrain from one of the Starter Sets, you could then bring this up from Combat Patrol and Incursion level to a proper Strike Force battlefield. A classic set-up for Games Workshop and not particularly different, other than giving you everything "in one box" so it's easy for a newcomer to the game.
The various elements of that Battlezone set are then going to be available separately so that you can get your hands on more to help bulk out your tabletops.
Battlefield: Armageddon // Warhammer 40,000
All very standard so far. Well, Games Workshop also showed off some more of the details on their pre-painted terrain and how that's going to be available for folks to pick up and add to their Warhammer 40,000 collection.
The Ready-Painted set comes with twenty-eight pieces representing the terrain you've seen above but with all of the painting done for you. You will, again, also get the terrain footprints and the double-sided gaming board.
Ready Painted Terrain Set // Warhammer 40,000
The Ready-Painted terrain comes on sprues which you just need to clip off and push together. This has been designed to give you a full Strike Force gaming set-up so you can dive right into playing your games of Warhammer 40,000 and 2000 points.
It looks good and considering what you're getting in the set, the rumoured price point of around £200 doesn't sound that bad, considering you don't have to do any painting (it's rumoured to be around the price of two Combat Patrols). I would assume that since this is themed around Armageddon, we will most likely be getting more Ready Painted Terrain in the future which fits different themes.
Last but not least, Games Workshop also revealed their Battlefields Battle Mats.
Battlemat: Armageddon // Warhammer 40,000
This is a soft fabric mat which has been scaled for Strike Force games, so they've got you covered for pretty much all of your games of Warhammer 40,000. It's about time that Games Workshop did fabric mats alongside their boards so folks have more options for setting up at home.
So what do you think? Are you going to be picking up the terrain unpainted and doing your own paint job on the range? Will you hold out for the Ready Painted Terrain and get that instead? From what we've seen, the terrain does actually look nicely "painted", in line with a lot of what we've seen from the likes of Archon with Dungeons & Lasers. I suppose it will all come down to that final cost and whether enough people want to pay for the convenience.
