Looking at the GW Canada site, all the anniversary made-to-order LoTR models are up.

    Canadian prices:

Weathertop (Amon Sul) $665 (I remember buying it for $400…)

Amon Hen seeing seat $335 (no reference)

Fellowship, original sculpts, metal $98 (was less than $50…)

Ambush at Amon Hen $108 (was around $60…)

Attack at Weathertop $108 (another $60…)

Three Hunters (Gimli, Aragorn, Legolas) $70 (I want to say it was around $40?).

So definitely very premium pricing. But super cool to see these return – especially the ultra rare Seeing Seat kit.

Expensive for sure but not outrageous given the cumulative effect of inflation.  The range started appearing in 2001 and some of these sets were very early in the release schedule.  In the UK cumulative inflation in the last 25 years means 2026 prices are 85% more than they were in 2001.  I seem to remember that Amon Sul felt like it was very expensive in 2001 (around £275 apparently) and at £350.50 that still checks out but that is way less than an 85% increase from the original price.

I know it feels like a shock, but GW actually seem to be trying to be reasonable about how outrageously expensive they make stuff 😀

If the metal sets for Weathertop/Amon Hen were cheaper, I would have gone for them but they’re just too expensive for me at the moment. Alas.

@zoidpinhead agreed, these are priced not unfairly accounting for inflation; I’m genuinely thinking of getting the lot of them from a nostalgia point of view…

GW still trying to soak fans for ancient sculpts. GW gonna GW.

@fightcitymayor these are classic sculpts, some of the best GW have done. How could you be upset about that? H8rs gonna H8?

GW convincing people to shell out premium (not even discounted) prices for static, 25mm, 25-year-old metal sculpts is very much a textbook case of “GW gonna GW.” But we all vote with our wallets, so enjoy.

Hey you too, @fightcitymayor  – you’re right; some will see value in these, some will not. That’s life, really, GW or other company. Some like Apple, some like Windows computers. Some people even like Linux! Crazy.

On the face of it near 50 pounds seems a lot but… It works out to 5 pounds a mini which for a metal figure these days is about average. Crooked dice are on the money with 5 pounds a mini, a metal reaper is 6-8 pounds, wargames foundry about 4 pounds but have a discount blister packs and without going through all 3rd parties 5-8 pounds for a single metal figure is about right.

If you look at e-bay prices for these out of stock mini you will be paying well over 10 pounds plus postage.

The Ruined Watchtower of Amon Sûl is a lot of money at 350. However if you want that Forge world kit and not some knock off it is next to impossible to even get second hand and the rare times it does come up it will go for 3 or 4 times that price.

I am not saying they are not a lot of money but if you want those models this is the cheapest way of getting them. That is true of a lot of the GW made to order metal figures. They have all gone up a lot in prices in the recent years due to metal costs and just demand.

I saw an e-bay bid of 11 metal sisters of battle go for 62.50 on e-bay last week…. We are just in that space of the market.

@Redscope – exactly. Everything is “expensive” nowadays; and eBay is … just plain insane. I bought the Weathertop last around 2010 IIRC, so that’s quite a while ago. Even back then GW would only do them as limited runs; the Seeing Seat I’ve never even seen in person. I haven’t pre-ordered these yet, but I probably will, honestly. When will they be available again?

Well, I did it: I made the order. For all the retro models. Nostalgia beat me.
Money is meant to buy things to make one happy, after all, right? Right.

    Ah, nostalgia….

For some perspective, the Skeleton Bell Tower from the Valley of the Four Winds board game, made by Minifigs since 1970-something, costs £ 35.

    Worth all £35, too!

I still had most of it, had to buy some of the Skellies pulling – you can buy them separately – something I used to love about GW before they became the Evil Empire –  and make my own wheels. They have a nice ‘organic’ look to them, somewhat similar to the Grenadier ones from about a decade later.

So in case you’ve ever wondered where the Skaven Screaming Bell originally came from, now you know…..
