I don’t have CoG, but I’m doing a “hobby holiday” in October, with my spouse.
Yyc – LHR; train to Nottingham – meet up with my five long friends at Warhammer World; then off to Edinburgh – historical emphasis @gorram maybe a meet up? ; York for history, maybe Lindisfarne (?); back to London. Two weeks of mostly history and some gaming.
Living the dream bud! Sounds like the perfect holiday to me.
Didn’t the grass burn at talavera
There is a museum in Ireland about the 1790s. My Irish wife dragged me to it. I don’t recall where it was. It has a little man diorama and I got to dress as a redcoat and chased my wife around who had a pike. I work in the museum industry and I’m involved in a network of museums who use costume characters. My museum is about crime and punishment but the network group are gathering at the armouries in Leeds in a couple of weeks to have a look behind the scenes
In Ireland they were meant to be building a small museum in Annagassan where the .Vikings supposedly first set foot in Ireland. For 1798 Ballynahinch has a few sign posts to the windmill that was part of the battle. Carlingford has a couple of plaques about Cuchulainn in the main car park. There are lots of castles and stone circles etc etc but sometimes. Not very well signposted though
The Keg is a lie ?
Ola Sunday
00:00 I’ve seen the eclipse. Was nice. Zero clouds.
03:00 Put them on stakes and grill them
04:22 Game of thraaaawns
07:25 Tekkonologia!
14:35 Historical and onesandzeros.
19:20 it’s a Curch.
30:00 It’s a poo
39:30 Rebellions? Filthy rebels? Where’s the Empire when you need it! THRAWN! Get to it!
50:15 Would I do a “hobby road trip”? Probably not. Things around here are mostly WW II and/or historical so that not really my jam. Would I do a round trip of companies if I where in Nottingham? Bet your little bottom I would.
1:13:36 Playing games? Odd concept.
Sunday. Cake needed.
Firstly, thanks for the GB. Much appreciated.
This is a very timely topic as I’ll be heading to the OTT studio and will come via Wayland Games HQ as I’ll be attending a tournament there then spend the day driving to Hollyhead to catch the ferry. I’ll stay just north of Dublin so I can go to Newgrange and the Neolithic monumental landscape there. I’ll probably stop off at the Boyne battlefield and nearby museum before heading up to Coleraine. Dundalk is on my route so I should stop off the see Cú Chulainn’s Castle, thanks for the suggestion 🙂
Anyone in that there London should go to the National Army Museum in Chelsea (much better than the Imperial War Museum imho). For fans of fancy armour there is a fascinating collection of Renaissance and Indian continent armour at the Wallace Collection on Manchester Square, W1. It is in the streets behind Selfridges. As Ben points out as being often the case, the cafe/restaurant there is worth a visit by itself.
some great golden buttons this week, buy OMFG i love that Trench Crusade board!
Happy Sunday…
Eden camp is a great day out. I grew up not too far away so ended up visiting most summers as a child. It’s an old PoW camp that has been turned into a museum. Each hut has a different theme from WWII.
Interesting to hear the 1798 Ireland Rebellion mentioned there are actually a few Wargaming Resources, there’s been a bit of coverage in magazines’, but can’t recall which one, google search 100% I have read magazine articles in one or other off Wargames Illustrated, Wargame Miniatures Magazine, and Wargames, Soldiers and Startegy, and there is a campaign pack for Wargames by Real Time Wargamers. “The Year of Liberty” Being a campaign set in Ireland in 1798 and guidelines for resolving clashes of arms which may result there. – Real Time Wargames | Wargame Vault
Gerry is 50! Wow I’d never have guessed. He doesn’t look a day over 49. Must be all that clean living
