Survive A Hostile 1980s In Black Site Studios’ The Last Signal

Black Site Studios has launched another crowdfunding/pre-order for a new Sci-Fi skirmish game that they had bubbling away in the background. The Last Signal is a 1980s Sci-Fi survival game for a solo wargamer and comes with a glorious set of new rules, mechanics and miniatures.
The Last Signal // Black Site Studios
Here's the blurb to get you started...
"The year is 1980. Humanity has fallen. A mysterious technological catastrophe known only as The Signal has spread across the world, corrupting electronics and transforming those caught in its wake into something no longer human. Cities have become graveyards of abandoned buildings and untold techno-horrors. You are one of the few survivors left."
When you dive into The Last Signal, you'll take on the role of a lone survivor who is attempting to escape the city they find themselves in and join up with a group known as "The Silence", who act as the resistance within this future of 1980s Earth.
You will play out games on a twelve-by-twenty-four-inch tabletop using your Survivor miniature and a small collection of hostiles that roam the streets. Games will have you scavenging for supplies whilst avoiding hostile creatures and attempting to escape a sprawling, gridded map that features all of your different encounters.
Low Danger Hostiles // The Last Signal
You will fight or at least try to survive by making use of whatever equipment that you have to hand. Make sure to search wherever you can to get your hands on weapons, food and supplies, which all help you manage your Health, Crave and stop your exposure to the Signal from overwhelming you. If you make too much noise, you could end up drawing some of the world's hostiles towards you, which would be a very bad idea indeed!
Brute & Signal Core // The Last Signal
The game uses a simple D10 rules system where the Survivor just has to worry about three core statistics, Attack, Defend and Soul. The idea is that the game can be played quickly and without the need for loads of complex rules that would overwhelm you.
In a fun twist, if you make it through a playthrough of the game, then you're encouraged to dive in and play again as your previous Survivors can help assist new ones with a bonus! Whilst the core game of The Last Signal covers a 1980s America, there is also an expansion available for you to get your hands on, which takes you to Japan in the Tokyo Expansion.
The Source // The Last Signal
The Last Signal also features a range of miniatures in 32mm scale from Black Site Studios to accompany their weird new game. You can see some of them here and get them as either a range of STL files for home 3D printing or you can snap them up as physical minaitures if you prefer alongside a range of different bundles.
Matron // The Last Signal
All of the miniatures are suitably weird and awesome at the same time, giving you a unique vision of this alternative 1980s. It harks back to films and TV of the time and has a distinctly dystopian edge to it, which I think is really fun. I love that Black Site are using its platform to come up with quirky, odd, and often very niche indie wargames. It's a great space to play in and means we get to see lots of fascinating rules and miniatures hit the tabletop in their games.
Has this tempted you to take a look at The Last Signal?

If they were aiming for “weirdest new game, ever”, they NAILED the aesthetic. So much to take in.
Looks amazing, but I wish it wasn’t just solo. Might pick up the bundles to support still; the models look great and I could use them for other weird games I’m sure and I’ll probably give the game a go anyways!
Long live the new flesh!
The game supports co-op as well, if that helps.
Now that’s interesting; a nice, fresh take on zombies!
Check out “Pontypool” if you haven’t seen it. Not the exact same idea, but similar. It’s s a different little movie, though; some will dig it, some won’t.
