A Village for Pillage

About the Project
I built a warband for Pillage, so I suppose I better paint it and give them some houses to set on fire and some shiny things to rob.

The Actual Village
I had printed and primed the buildings. I used Trench brown for the base and Ossified earth for the thatched roof.
I made a wash using Windsor and Newton sepia ink, some flow medium and a splash of detergent.
I used a couple of AK markers to go over the stone walls, and one to go over the stick fences. This proved to be quite effective once the wash was applied
I added some flock and tufts and hit it with a matte varnish to take the shine off of the wash.
Finishing Touches
I finished the bases , added a bit of mud to the figures and shields with a sponge and applied a satin varnish onto the metal parts.
Progress Update
I got the warband progressed quite nicely, these have been really enjoyable to paint
Progress Update
With the small pieces painted, I had a choice, start on the buildings or start on the warband. Decided on a break from terrain and started on the Saxons.
Accoutrements
I had acquired a cheap box of barricades through the medium of Vinted, and also picked up the market, treasure and animals sets from Victrix. Plus I have a bunch of Traitors Toll bits and bobs that might prove useful too .
Lots of tiny fiddly things to paint yay.In fact I dug up so many that I am doing a separate project on them
So the plan is to tack everything to lolly sticks to prime and paint. I am going to go through my existing scatter stuff and see if there is stuff I can use as well.
Then it’s on to the farmyard beasties.I am considering clear round bases for them.
A Productive Bank Holiday
May Day bank holiday was a quiet one. I tried to start on my 28mm ACW but found a combination of poor primer choices on the Perry Miniatures and the general horridness of the Warlord figures (another of their outdated acquired miniatures ranges), I chucked them back in the box and picked out my Saxon warband from Victrix. I had just watched a battle report from 7th Son and the game looks like really good fun.
The Victrix figures were a pleasure to work with. I was trying to ‘paint rather than build’. I enjoy building and priming more than painting, although the 12 SAS desert fighters I had done recently were really satisfying to paint.
I need to paint more. I have so many RUBs of assembled but unpainted figures it’s seriously not healthy.
