Never played competitive. Always play with (against?) friends. Winning is nice, but having fun is more important.

I’m completly on board with @grantinvanman and @jeffersonpowers here.
@limburger of course you can play any game any way you want but that wasn’t the point. the point is: what is your jam?
Side thought: if you buy a game that is designed competitive but you change rules so you can play more fluffy and casual (or vice versa): is it still the same…[Read more]

This is where I stand/sit; I like non-competitive at all cost games and tournaments. I l…[Read more]

every game is miniature agnostic.
every game is a narrative game
every game can be a tournament game
it’s all about perception and how the community responds.Good rules aren’t things that are strictly for tournaments. Claiming that only tournaments need them is false and makes narrative games feel like a way for companies to cheap out on the…[Read more]

Hi there! I’m new to the website, and I grew up in Belfast and lived 20 odd years there before immigrating. I guess I got fed up living in the 17th Century. Anyway, I have been wargaming 30 years, and about 7 […]

Very excited for this one – been following the game since it was Spectre Operatons mod. Was a first day pre-order for me. The different opfor cards are great for flavour of factions.

So on the recent XLBS the question was
What Is A Narrative Wargame?
and the discussion always seems to revolve around tournament players vs campaign players and I feel there is more to this. I’ll try to do a list.
- tournament players – always ears on the ground, chasing the meta and the latest way to cheese the game in order to win.

@limburger so far, 11e has been underwhelming. More like a 10.1 – not even a 10.5 midway mark. Models are bland. Theming is bland. Terrain is bland.
Definitely oriented at the tourney players, the lifeblood of GW these days it seems – for example, 500 players at the big Tacoma, WA, tourney for the competitive side; 100 players on the narrative…[Read more]

Surely no one can finish these kinds of solo rpg books without cheating, can they ?
No. That’s why we all cheat 😀 I used to play them a lot when they first came out as I was a teenager and very much a member of the target audience. I tried every possible technique and there isn’t any way to get through a book without dying if you play fo…[Read more]
