(looks at the elephant in the room) Call me a heretic  guys but I think you and the rest of the hobby net could cut ninety to hundred percent of your “safe space” issues for both political party viewpoints simply by getting rid of Warhammer articles (40k in particular) off the web and making 40k a forbidden topic. Just saying its clearly the most toxic fandom (as the kiddies say) and its lore attracts radical nut jobs from all sides of the political spectrum if its not cultivating them, and its clearly making them be their worst selves online  regardless of which stance they have.

That said there probably should be a  place for that argumentative radical aspect of the community since fighting over little plastic/metal/resin figures and a fictional setting online is far healthier than going at it over real world issues irl like some people in Minneapolis seem to be doing, but I get the feeling that’s a calling as opposed to something every forum group should do.

But the fact of the matter is the typical online active 40k fan is either a  furry liberal,  a neo-nazi (some of whom are also Jewish some how, guess its personal issue in those rare cases), an argumentative veteran that thinks they are right in all things regardless of little things like reality or  all of those with additions partly depending on the meds they are taking.  And I have come across other oddites that make all those seem like fine people by comparison and yes on both/all sides of the spectrum, for every woman hating  misogynist writing what could generously be described as revenge porn fanfiction there is a person who clearly doesn’t even know what a woman is and decided to write an inflammatory hobby related essay on the topic (I think holly has the right idea since both of those perspectives are actually sexist).

And before you say “ah, your just one of the problems bvandewalker, there is no issue with 40k itself.” or “we just need to clean the hobby of radical right wingers like you.” I actually had this very conversation with  a girl fan of 40k in real life who described herself  as a “Fluffy liberal” and she brought up the radical divide issue starting with the problem children on her side and I finished her sentence  by mentioning the problem children on my side, so no it clearly 40k itself and its a both sides issue with regards to 40k.
