The vast majority of the new games I’ve gotten into have been as a result of coverage on OTT.
For me theme is the first thing I look at. Then I try to get a sense of whether I’ll like the rules or not, but that can be difficult to assess unless you can actually play the game. More often than not, if the theme appeals to me and I like the models, I’ll at least buy what I need to try the game out.
With that in mind, ease of entry is another selling point: is there a starter set with everything I need to play the game? The last game I really jumped into was Star Schlock, which has an excellent starter set that includes two complete forces along with dice, measuring tools and tokens, so all I had to do was scrounge up some terrain. Guards of Traitor’s Toll looks to be similar — I haven’t managed to get it to the table yet so we’ll have to see, but I’m optimistic, it seems like something my partner and I will enjoy.
EDIT: I almost forgot the obligatory music clip. I re-watched Sid and Nancy recently, so here is the very silly video for the title track by Joe Strummer.
